Finally got my GL450

I took delivery of our barolo red GL450 yesterday after ordered it in April but had to wait for June production due to the delay for barolo red production. It is a great color and I am glad I waited. This SUV is difinitely way superior than my first ML320 and it just drive wonderfully. I got the updated bluetooth puck to go with the SUV too, and it has better sound quality than the first bluetooth puck I got for my 06'E55.

Thanks guys. I have couple of questions. Do I have to install the roof rack cross-bar? And what is the net-looking thing in the plastic bag?

If you got the Off Road package then dealer should have installed the cross bars.

The net-looking thing is a divider that you can put up to keep cargo/pets separated from the seating area.

Don't know about the roof rack cross-bar, but the net-looking thing is a cargo retaining system. You unzip it from the bag & straighten out the rods until they click in place. Then look up in the ceiling of the GL in the 3rd row area. You'll see some "holes" in the ceiling. These are for the rods of the cargo retaining system to go into. Put the 3rd row seats flat & you'll see some cargo tie down rings. Use the straps to adjust the hooks on the ends of the straps to secure them to the cargo tie down rings. I use it when I transport my dogs; it keeps them in the back & prevents them from being on the seats. I also used it with the 2nd row seats flat (there are "holes" in the ceiling in that area, too) when I was helping a friend move. It allowed us to stack stuff high in the back & the net helped keep it back behind the seats.

Good looking ride, John. Get it washed and waxed and post some more pictures before it starts to snow!

After a long drive from Buffalo to Toronto, GL450 is smooth and quiet like I expected. The transmission work seamlessly and GL450 is suprisingly agile and fast for its size. The only thing I don't like is the joystick on the MCS unit. It is difficult to move and select letters compare to the Comand in my E55. But the GL450's NAV seems better and more detail than my 06'E55. Maybe someday Mercedes will use touch screen system like my old Lexus GX470, the only thing I missed from the Lexus.

Beautiful! How do you like it?! I'm entertaining a sport ute with 3rd row seating before the end of the year! So far, I've narrowed my choices down to the GL Class, LR3 or the Infiniti QX, all of which offers 3rd row seating!

We test drove the QX56 and the power is there but the handling isn't. It does sway quite a bit and doesn't seem as well built as the GL450. I won't even mess with LR3 and their transmission issues.

GL450 has an excellent ride and it appears to be very well built. It rides better than my old Lexus GX470, and it actually has real third row seats. And I love the attention and detail Mercedes put into in the interior. Overall I am very happy with the GL450.

Thx John! It sounds like you're satisfied with the full-size sport ute. I appreciate the feedback.
