Wink Just took delivery of my 320 CDI guys!!..

What a beauty, if I say so myself...I'll add pics tomorrow. Picked it up from Knauz in Chicago.[Iridium silver/blk leather interior] Were quite "friendly" to me. They even said, if the paper work couldn't get done today, they would have the car delivered to my home. But it worked out at the end.

I would like to thank everyone who had their advice for me. and putting up with me... As you know by now, I am a pessimist by nature [see all my threads]..but must say, was blown away by the car.

Car was about fully loaded, except off road/towing package, distronic..pretty much everything else. Chrome package with back strip was a beauty..said so by the dealer. Along with illuminated door sills/ambient lighting/ amg sport pedals/chrome inserts.....nice touches.

Now I just have to figure out all the neat tricks with the manual/comand module....for which I all again ask for all your help!

Questions off the bat...

1. what is the freaking correct head light setting?..seems i have it on high beam? always..

2. have the bluetooth with my blackberry pearl..nice...but when I receive a second call, i don't see the "call waiting" message on the comand screen? only on my phone?

3. have sirius sat. radio..voice recognition doesn not activate it?...

4. do i have to set up the voice command on my phone first in order to activate my phone book by voice command to dial a number?

5. best cleaner to clean the interior leather?

6. limitations on the keyless go to open the rear hatch?..could only open it while I was pretty close to the hatch?

7. do the bi xenon/cornering lights work automatically? or is there a setting for those?

8. gps navigation...was not that accurate?..anyone else have problems?..worth getting a garmin nuvi or something?.....

9. sound system was OK...nothing to rave about?...

10. worth putting an air deflector over the sunroof?..

Dealer jipped me on the mats though..told me he'll "throw them in for free"..sure looked it...already scuffed up..wanted blk..think they were gray?..will probably order the weather tech Liners for all rows?....

ANY OTHER THINGS I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT/SHOULD DO?

well, that's all I could think of for now...will have more soon!

Thanks again guys.

Congratulations on the purchase.

I don’t have a GL, but from my M-B experience, I will try to answer some of your questions.

1. High Beams? Doesn’t the selector (also the turn signal stalk) switch from high to low?
3. My Voice control does not control my Sirius
4. You should not have to set up anything to dial a number. Say “Dial Number” it should ask for the number and you can say them in 3 or 4 number groups.
5. I like Zaino.
7. Just a guess here – if the cornering lights are not working, maybe there is a setting in the menu system to turn them on.
8. My Nav system is adequate, but I agree that it leaves a lot to be desired. I also have a Garmin Street Pilot. It is light years ahead of the M-B unit. I think the Nuvi is a great unit and I would get one if I needed another one.

Anyother thing? Read the Owner's Manual from cover to cover.

Enjoy the ride rleggs. And, yeah, read the manual cover to cover.

BT on my BB only allows handsfree and contact download. No call waiting.

They key has to be within 2ft to unlock any doors/hatch.

Cornering lights work automatically.

5. I have the MB Tex interior and use the interior cleaner from Griot's Garage...great stuff.

8. The GPS does leave a bit to be desired. I have a Garmin Nuvi as well and there are things it cannot find, either. With the exception of not being able to find my house (which was built 5 years ago), the MB Nav system works pretty well, once you get used to using the joy stick vs. touch screen (like the Nuvi).

Congrats on your new ride!

I've found that the remote key doesn't work well. IMO it's a shame that the key has to be near the vehicle for the hatch release/all windows open feature to work. With our BMW I can open the windows/doors from far away.

Also, I agree that the sound system leaves a lot to be desired.

Take it easy. Sheesh!

Don't you dare to put an air deflector in the sunroof. Unless it was changed from my current 03ML the sunroof should open just about enough to prevent the noise and have fresh air coming in. then you can fully open if you want.
The nav system has always been behind for MB, even my Toyota has better features, not to mention my Accord coupe, that was the best nav system I've had so far.
Did yo get the rear dvd system? I can't wait to see my kids' faces when they see it...

Congratulations on your GL320! It was delivered on the same truck as mine and I saw it when visiting the dealer. It's beautiful.

Some comments: My grey all-weather mats also came scuffed up. They looked used. After just a couple weeks, they look even more used. I'm going to replace them.

3. Voice control doesn't work on the satellite radio
6. The remote seems to work pretty well with the hatch. But I usually just grab the hatch handle and ley keyless-go do the rest. If you simply squeeze the latch, KG will unlock the car and open the hatch. I also like how you can hit the second red button on the hatch to close the hatch and lock the car at the same time. This was an unexpected benefit of KG.
7. Bi-Xenon cornering function is automatic.

Question thanks guys for the replies...and

I'll post pics soon.....yes, I do have the rear dvd.....nice..my son loves it when i have the sound come out through the main speakers...was watching "Cars"...

Q. on the bluetooth..have the BB pearl...do I have to turn the phone on everytime and then activate the steering/comand button?..cause each time i get out of the car and get back in it says "tel not ready"..tel.off...? when in fact my phone is on?

Q. I have the clear bra on the front fascia...somehow I got some minor scruff marks over a small area on top of the bra...anyway to remove/hide it?

yes, dealer jipped me on the mats...grey/scruffed up already...I've ordered the weathertech liners in blk.for all rows...

Ok..will not put the deflector on the sunroof!

was also thinking of putting mud flaps..dealer said " NOO!"...agree?

Q. is there a way to have the digital clock on the comand screen to stay on all the time?..how do we adjust it anyway?...[ I personally like the analog clock on the cluster panel...blends in well....]

Q. there is no jack for the headsets in the third row?..i don't think the headsets will reach to the third row, tethered?

Q. which gas stations do you guys use mainly for the cdi?....any problems finding stations?..

Q. some people complained of the blind spots on the outside mirrors...I just put those "blind spot" mirrors on the side mirrors..solved the problem...

Q. anyone find the difference between the mbtex and the leather?..I ordered the leather/ambient lighting....came with the white stitching.

Q. where/when can you see the ambient lighting? I have not noticed yet?

I'll answer the fuel question since we're both in the same area. You can get 500+ miles to a tankful so finding diesel before you run out is no issue. ULSD is available at most (not all) Mobil stations. All the tollway oasis stations have ULSD. Speedway has ULSD but prices vary widely. I've found that BP and Shell generally don't sell diesel, except for the Shell and BP on Route 21 in Vernon Hills.

Just look for the diesel signs on the stations that you pass during your daily commute. You'll soon learn which stations sell diesel and which are the cheapest. I've found that diesel prices are much more stable than gas prices.
