Service Indicator

I dropped my GL off at the dealership last week for some body repairs (some idiot backed into me & I needed a new bumper and a rock decided to grace itself across my hood, so that also had to be repaired). I picked up the GL today from the dealership (they brought it around & left the engine running) and we went to dinner. When I turned the GL back on, the "Service B in 22 days" indicator was on I haven't had Service A done yet! I've only had the GL since April and it has 6925 miles on it.

Any idea why the Service B indicator is on? It comes on every time I start up the car. I have an appointment this Saturday for a tire rotation at the dealership but was hoping somebody on here would know what was going on. I don't want the dealership to give me a line of bull...not that a dealership would do that

I had a similar situation with my S Class. I told my SA and he reset it and it correctly indicated when it was due for the A Service.

Thanks Nish. I hate being a female & walking into a service department and asking a question I don't already know the answer to.

07 GL450,
My GL with 10k just called for service B, a quick call to the dealer gave me a $450 estimate to which I said "no thank you" since it is only a brake fluid flush, tire rotation and a oil change with the rest being inspections. It took me a littlle more than a hour to do it myself.

Service B on 10K? Wow.......It was most likely an error and dealer should have reset it.

Also, not sure where in CA you are but in LA, dealers are falling over each other cutting A & B costs. Last I checked A was costing around 200 bucks and B was around 300 bucks.

I just got an e-mail from my dealership with a coupon for $199 for A and $299 for B service. Unfortunately, the coupons expire Sept. 4 and I won't be ready for A service that soon.

Good to know, Nish, that they are being competitive. I'll definitely drive a bit to save $100. I have no loyalty to the Valencia dealership -- they're just the closest one.

Actually, with my main dealership (Penske in West Covina) you don't even have to drive. As long as you make your appt. six weeks in advance, they will come to your house with a loaner on a flat bed, will pick up your car, take it in for service and then will drop it back and take back the loaner. The only catch is you gotta be within 50 miles of them.

I really like Penske better than Calabasas or Encino. Haven't tried the 1000 Oaks dealer's service but their sales was a joke. I have heard good things about Valencia and they were good in one interaction that I had with them.

I don't understand this B Service at 10-12000 miles? The first paid service at this mileage should be an A Service and any dealer who does a B and gets $399 is ripping people off. Even in my S Class at 12000 miles I only had an A and paid $193...

Had Service A with a tire rotation yesterday for $285 including tax and environmental fees. Thought that was a bit high, especially since NJ got his done so much more cheaply in his S550. The oil filter was $24.95! I am captive here in Chattanooga and can't really shop dealers. I am not really complaining too much, however, because I love the truck and $300 - 400 every 10K miles is not unreasonable on a $70K vehicle. The local dealer is very nice and they do quick work. It is better to keep as much money in your hometown as you can, IMHO.

Totally agree. $3-400 every 10-12,000 miles is pretty reasonable for maintenance on any of these cars. BTW my price on the S did not include a tire rotation or balancing.
