firstGL, call my "professional" at Westminster MB in Denver. He will get you a GL as quick as anyone at a good price. His name is Greg Weiler and he can be reached at 866-659-4788. Tell him NevadaJack recommended you talk to him. Questions lead to answers with Greg. They deliver to your front door if you want but a flight to Denver and the drive back east is a nice thought.
BTW...they are sponsors for this forum.

I've got an MBA from Northwestern University and it doesn't mean jack. I've met more people who have degrees that don't know squat.
From my perspective it's not what you know, it's what you do with what you know. Doing it right the first time and everytime does not require any college degree.

Yeah, but what if one has a degree in squat?
OK, my attempts a juvenile humor are over. Back to the grind.

That is great news. What was your estimated build date? Do you have a status from NetStar like B4/B5/D5? The reason I ask is I am trying to see progress times. My build was the 13th and it is still in B4 as of noon today. My rep contacted Distribution and confirms there are no delays with the 550's

Build date is 8/21 and will need 2-3 weeks for delivery thereafter.. So that means mid Sept delivery.. As for other details i have no idea.. Don't wanna be a pest with rep, just want the truck... happy to hear this good news as this thread made me a little anxious. Damn the newbie who started it.. How can we get even with him?
D5 (Assignment to Carrier) is the key date...that is when your truck leaves the marshaling yard and is on it's way to the dealer via truck or rail. For me that time frame is 10-13 days from Vance to Denver.

That delivery date may be good based on your location on the east coast. Keep in mind the build date of 8/21 is a estimated date and in reality it could be build anytime between the 21st and the 30th (3rd Decade)...just depends on how the line is set up at that time.

Yeah...mind has the 13th (first day of 2nd Decade) but just because it has a VIN and is B4 (In Production) it may not actually be built until today maybe. Then again it could move to D5 on Monday or Tuesday...it is not yet a science, even with robots in charge..:-)

Brilliance.. Your enthusiasm for cars parallels my own.. Now one more question, how do you feel about giving up a 1 year old S class? Do you have a problem with committment?

But now I want to exerience something different and the GL550 give me the same engine and same transmission I have in the S. That is a major factor in getting the GL. The combination of those two components are just a pleasure to drive.
I enjoy all my cars when I buy them but when the time comes for something new or different I move on and forget about the old one. No feeling of loss, just the excitement of the next one. I know what real loss is and sentimental attachment to a piece of metal is not something I get involved with.

Okay enough seriousness about life.. I wanna focus on good news. There's no delays in GL550's and mine will be here mid Sept as indicated by my dealer when I put in order 2 months ago... So those who didn't get in with orders early will have to wait.. I actually signed an order sheet without even knowing price of vehicle 2 months ago.. How many people would be willing to do that?? I was told I'd get it at MRSP and the dealer is holding true on that.. I think my dealer is being appropriate and providing "ethical" business.. They're coming true on their promises.. I'm actually impressed with them.. I wouldn't be surprised if they can get over MRSP on theses vehicles.. Also the waiting game has even worked in my favor since the Fed just lowered rates and that'll equal better bank rates!!! The world is in order and all is well... This GL game is even getting me sirius radio in my other car. Progress all around!!! Yes NJ ya gotta enjoy..

Mazeltof! I can't wait until the "delivered" 550 pics start rolling in. I just think it's a good looking car in the 320 and 450, and a real stunner in the 550!

Jack, I recall you saying that this will be your first SUV. You might find the elevated driving position addictive - if handling is not a top priority. It will be interesting to see how you react to the tradeoffs between the GL and the S after about 5000 miles. I bought my first SUV in 1996 and have one around ever since. I find the better visability makes for a more relaxing ride - particularly in heavy traffic. But I still appreciate the handling of a sedan.

It will be interesting to compare the S with ABC and the GL with ADSII. My maiden voyage will be right after delivery when I drive it the 800+ miles to Las Vegas from Denver. Mostly highway but some city on both ends.

Have you got a right-seater for that trip? Not that you're not familiar with Mercedes button and control positions already, but I sometimes find that while in heavy traffic or high speeds on the highway, it's nice to have someone to check the owner's manual for you while you pay attention to the road. I guess that's my Cockpit Resource Management training kicking in!
