Delays in GL550??
I have an order for a GL550 in the Manhattan NY dealership. I was told that i was a mid august build and early september delivery. My dealer told me today that due to delays in 550 production i should expect my car late september early October. Does this make any sense to you guys? have you heard of such delays?

Doesn't surprise me at all. My supposed build date of 2007/08/1D is now supposed to be first 10 days of September according to my rep yesterday. No reason given other than this is what "Distribution" told him. Keep in mind, my 550 is coming from the same dealership as NJ. No rhyme or reason as far as I can tell.

First posters
I hate it when a first poster posts a very controversial statement and then after several hours does not bother to respond to questions or repost.
Do we have a troll post?

I'm willing to double or triple his gambling budget for the Vegas meet for such service.

For what it's worth, my GL320 build date got moved from June 14 to July 9, but they ended up compeleting the build on June 30. The dealer said that MB often builds earlier than the pushed-out date whenever they push out dates. Maybe the same will happen here.

I am probably going to shift my large gambling account to the Red Rock Hotel & Casino which I recommended for out of town attendees to stay at for the meet in October.

sorry guys didnt realize this is happening real time. Thanks for all of your feedback. my rep is looking into VIN or PO, but said that something like, MB is choosing to increase GL450 production at the expense of 550 and therefore the delay. This is my first MB and truthfully not used to reps that sound like used car salesmen.

Your rep shouldn't have to "look into" VIN or PO...if the order is valid it has to have a PO# and to get a VIN it has to be in status B4 (In Production). I don't know if he is playing with the allocations or what, but my rep (a true professional and very knowledgeable) has heard or seen nothing about any delays as of last night after you posted.
If you hear anything please let us know...as I indicated my truck is in production and should be moving to carrier within a few days.

Whether there is any validity to the delay rumor? I guess the demand for 550 blocks in the S and the GL and the other classes could create a problem. Would be a shame for the GL550 to be delayed when it is just being released. I still don't know what the official release date is (nor do the dealers) but all the emphasis right now is getting rid of 2007 stock (the Love campaign) and the new C Class.

Those mothers better deliver my truck.. I bet the dealers are starting to sell off vehicles already allocated to higher buyers... carsalesman will screw people for extra profit.. Had this happen to me several years ago when I bought a lexus at a great price.. they sold my allocated car to someone else (but never admitted it).. I don't think I was paranoid.. They'd sell their own children for a buck..

My point...there are car salesmen and then their are professionals who's job it is to make your car buying experience a pleasure and smooth as silk. They are few and far between and I feel fortunate to have located one at the Denver dealership.

As Stumblefoot knows...a good rep makes the sale a pleasure for you. I was lucky to make contact with one when I purchased my S Class and I cannot say enough about his attention to my sales. He is honest, up-front, extremely knowledgeable about the process and the product and is just a pleasure to deal with. He personally checked me out on the S Class and spent over an hour and a half explaining every detail. They have staff to do that but he accommodated me for a late in the day delivery and ended up closing the store well after dark.

the latest explanation given to me for the delay, is that my dealer is MB owned so they are giving privately owned dealership priority since they are MB's bread and butter
