Dealer in Houston has notified me that the automobile is in transit and is expected to arrive Monday 8/20. This is much sooner than his original arrival projection of a early Sept date. Hopefully Hurricane Dean won't interfere with the delivery date.

Color is Iridium Silver with Ash MB-Tex interior. We ordered most options except Distronic ....... This will be our first silver automobile and will probably replace a Lexus hybrid suv.

You didn't mention where you live but as far as I'm concerned, good call on replacing a hybrid with a diesel, for the U.S. Unless you live in Manhattan or San Francisco, I can't see a hybrid being as efficient over all (taking in to account maintenance especially), even in most of LA-LA which is primarily freeways. Sorry, short-term parking lots!

As you can see elsewhere, the GL is a really fantastic vehicle, and those of us who've gone to "the dark side" (fuel-wise) love what we've gotten.

6 days from build to Houston showroom is very quick. You are fortunate to get it that fast unless it was built before 8/14.

I swear once you see Distronic in action, you realize how great an option it is.

Especially in the LA LA land where people get reward points on how bad they drive.

I'm looking forward to seeing it in action. And, I too, wish I could get it on the 550. I'm thinking that it would have been awesome on that drive through Kansas back to Illinois to see family at Christmas. I could have just set it and taken a nap as the road doesn't have a turn in it for 90 miles or so it seems.

You know... if you have enough reward points, you can cash them in at Caesar's in October.

Jokes aside, this is a true episode from yesterday on the 405 Freeway. We were heading back from the airport and saw a CLS 63 AMG racing a Civic. I am not kidding you. That is the kind of drivers we have in LA with more money than sense and no regard for safety of others.

 

I imagine you've got the same problem in parts of La-LA, but here in Scottsdale we have the joy of kids with AMGs, Corvettes, Mustang GTs, etc. etc. driving to and from high school, usually just at age 16. For lunch they want to go to McDonald's so they high-tail it at lightening speeds with no experience and little judgment through crowded streets, usually wiping out a family or two on the way. I live in a nice neighborhood. My favorite neighbor made his teenage kids share an Escort - with them paying the insurance so if someone got a ticket, they rode the bus to school!

Remember, click it or have your lungs ripped out on the windshield because some teenager wanted to do a donut on the 10 at rush hour! (Wait, is that the slogan?)

 

That sounds like the Summerlin area in Las Vegas. The school parking lots look like new car showrooms and the teachers lot looks like a used car lot. Some months ago 5 teenagers were killed doing exactly what you mentioned, lunch brake and heading for the fast food. The driver had a learning permit! Where are their parent's brains?

 

Vision limited due to crainal-rectal disease. Like the people I know who've given teenagers Land Cruisers (or equivalents) and then don't understand when they crash 6500 lbs of vehicle into a Mini and kill someone.
