Learned 2 New Things About The GL Today

I learned something new today...I was at the gas station & got out of the GL and locked it as I was going inside the gas station. When I came out, I discovered I had to unlock the doors so the fuel filler door would open (lesson #1). I unlocked the GL and started pumping the gas. About 15 seconds later, the doors automatically locked (lesson #2). I had the keys in my pocket, so I know I didn't accidentally press the "lock" button. This happened to me once before when I unlocked the GL with the remote, but didn't open any of the vehicle doors. 15 seconds (or thereabouts) later, the car locked itself. Amazing what this car does.

Some of you may already have discovered this, but it was surprising to me. I'm used to the doors locking when I drive off, but I was amazed that the car will lock itself if it detects that it has been left unlocked.

It's kind of a nice feature.......actually there a number of vehicles with similar systems.......including my Toyota Prius! Most of us don't know it will do that until we do something like you did........that's how I found out on the Prius and have not followed the same sequence on the Gl as yet

Yes, I saw that in the manual and I guess it only re-locks itself after being unlocked with the remote button and no doors opened for 40 secs. Seems like a good security feature and I can't think of anyway it could be a problem??

The 40 second re-lock has been a M-B standard for many years.

I really like the gas cap being locked when the car is locked but that auto relock thing kind of drives me crazy sometimes when I don't get to the car in time. In my case I always keep my car locked even when it is in the garage because I often have a computer or what not in it. I will unlock in from inside my house and leave the keys inside. I often do not get to it in time to get whatever I need out of it. Mines seems to relock in alot less than 40 seconds...............

well, the only bad experience i've had with it was leaving a friends house one time. it was POURING down rain, my car was parked in the driveway, and I had several things i needed to carry out to the car. i unlocked the car from the garage, shoved my keys in my pocket, and grabbed all the things i had to carry out and made a run for it...i had left one finger free to open the door when i got to the car. as fate would have it, the car relocked just as i got to it. i had to juggle several things in the pouring rain and reach in my pocket to re-unlock the door.

Yeah, well there you go, I guess there's always a negative scenario that can come up with these "smarter than the driver" systems. My well developed curse vocabulary would have come in use there! I have the Keyless Go so I haven't encountered a lock out situation yet but I'm sure one exists.

Yeah, I tend to deal with anger that way too. Not sound like Captain Obvious here, but can't TeleAid unlock your car?

Darn it, I blame Keyless Go for not letting me discover this jpeardm - let's figure out a way to get locked out with Keyless Go. That will give MB something to think about

Jokes aside, that is good to know. Thanks, Jen, for sharing.

My older model CLK does this very same thing. Good feature IMO.

Luckily I read the manual and saw this there, I think it provides good security as well.
