this may sound stupid to some
but since i got my 550 ,a few People
have complamented me saying
nice mercedes wagon!!

I would hate to say it is a wagon
but at the same time I can see a slight wagon
appearance .

What do you guys consider it to be??
crossbreed wagon/SUV??
A beefy looking wagon??
or strictly a badass SUV(truck)??

I would like to say the third one
or am I in denial ?? LOL

It is certainly not a wagon, and it is not a "crossover." That leaves few designation other than a SUV. It is a sedan ride in a SUV body with features unique to a off-road capable machine. I think "bad *** truck" also fits the description...

It is one good looking and riding vehicle with class written all over it...

I just don't see how anyone can think that GL looks like a wagon. It's just not possible. It looks like an SUV through and through.

Yes, an SUV for sure but aptly a high end SUV. I think most people are used to thinking an SUV is a big box on wheels like Navigator, Excursion, Escalade, Tahoe, etc and along comes something like the GL with a lot of European style and it doesn't fit the mold. Maybe they need to call it something different and the term wagon is the only alternative that comes to mind.

Definitely not a wagon. I also would not describe it as a "Bad ***" SUV. To me it's a great all around high class SUV that is as close to driving a car as a SUV gets. It is also a very "Sporty" SUV. A "Bad ***" SUV to me is something you can tow the Queen Mary with while crossing the jungles of Africa. The GL's are too refined/sophisticated to me to meet that criteria.

You didn't see the earlier GL ads? I think it was posted on YouTube and showed a GL towing a big boat and a bunch of stuff behind it.

+1000! Wagon, my butt! Mercedes makes a wagon, and then they have a "cross-over" (I have a few names of my own for the R), and the GL sure as heck is no wagon!

My vote says it's an SUV - I wouldn't consider getting a 'wagon' to tow my track car and trailer! Plus no wagon would have a towing capacity rated at 7,500 lbs. and available with a class IV hitch.

Sport Utility Vehicle. It is definitely sporty and utilitarian. Definitely not truck based with the unibody. More like "cutting edge" technology. The Class IV and 7500# towing capacity gives it truck-like characteristics but there is nothing truck-like in the handling or suspension.

Wagon? At least they didn't call it a mini-van.

Hmm. That's not a bad idea, really. I'll keep a knife in the glove box and when someone calls my awesome killer ride a "Wagon" I'll let them experience empathy for my emotions regarding that remark.

Perhaps I should keep a Desert Eagle .50 for whoever calls it a "Mini Van?"
