Anyone driven an Audi Q7

I am looking to ditch my daily driver S4 for an SUV. My sister has a Gl450 that she likes a lot, but I dont really need something that big. The ML is not really my style so I am stuck between the GL and the Q7. Havent even sat in a Q7, just like the styling. Did anyone else consider the Q7 before getting the GL? Any input is appreciated.

Yes, I did. Drives very well. But I felt claustrophobic in it as it didn't seem to have has much headroom in the 2nd & 3rd rows. Also, when I was looking it didn't have the factory RSE which we wanted for the kids. Just my opinion.

I looked closely at the Q7 but I actually liked the larger feel and ride in the GL. The GL has a longer wheelbase but it has the same overall length and track as the Q7. The GL is a few inches higher but that means more headroom for me. Test drive both, the GL does not drive like a big SUV.

My wife and I drove one and we did not like it compared to our GL450. The Q7 feels small on the inside. The multifunction contol of the radio, CD, satellite etc. was the dumbest design I have ever seed. I guess it kind of like the BMW i-drive but worse. The control is down by the shift console and the display up on the dash is confusing and not user friendly.

Just not the quality of the ML or GL.

The Q7 is a great choice in my mind. It rides very nice and handles exceptionally well. Although Gordongl450 doesn't like it, we found the multifunction contol was a great design, because it matched our A6 exactly and its so easy to use. However, keep in mind, I've never used the MB or BMW system on a daily basis, so I don't have a true comparison basis to offer you. I just remember when looking at BMW's I thought their system was horribly complex and an atrocious design. I guess that's what makes the world go 'round... we've all got our own opinions.

The reason we choose the GL was because of the strength of the engine and interior cargo space. All of our stuff fit easily in the GL, but only about 1/2 fit in the Q7.

There's a fella on here (AutoSaurus I believe) that had a GL320 and now drives a Q7. If he's still lurking around, he'll be happy to give you a lot of fantastic insight into the Q7 I bet.

Good Luck!

Didn't drive but did look at it. 3rd row seat was a big factor for us so went with GL.

Looked at the Q7. I liked the ergonomics and features overall but the weak points are the small third row and the fact that the vehicle is heavy and underpowered. Despite the GLs size it crushes the Q7 in acceleration and overall performance. As a former S4 cabrio owner, if they could place that engine in the Q7 it would make for an interesting ride.

Crush !

Talking about crushing.. I do that every day and most of the cars don't match its stop light get go A few of them take a chance thinking its a big lux ute and they could treat it like one they only realize it a few sec after that something that flew past them was same sloppy Ute.

Oh did I mention that this I did with 6 passengers on board .

I bet Q7 is no where near it

Q7 is big on the outside but small on the inside . Luggage space behind second row is 15% less than what we have on our MBZ wagon! ( I measured it )
Audi's 4.2 V8 motor sounds great at part throttle tip- in vs " sedan quiet "engine of the GL 450. Q7 bit more nimble, but none of these utes are gonna fool anybody that they're driving a sports sedan. Even the new Cayenne Turbo feels like what it is - a truck.

Air Bags

I forgot to mention one thing. The only reason I thought to look at the Audi Q7 (versus the MB's) was the fact that it is the only other SUV out there with availablity of rear seat side impact air bags. There are a $350 option which you have to order on the Q7, but at least they are availble. I think those are important airbags to protect rear seat passengers in addtion to side curtain airbags.

In the ML and the GL rear seat side impact air bags are of coarse standard and the only SUv's in the industry with them standard.

We own both! My wife prefers the Q7, I prefer the GL, so it all works out. I like the GL because it's quicker, quieter, smoother (even on 22's), offers DVD in the back, plus I have my iPod in there while hers doesn't. The GL has more room, and easier access to the third row.

I do prefer the Q7's command setup which is setup well to never have to look down at it. The color screen (both the main screen, and the small one for the driver) look awesome, and have a couple features I'd love to have in the GL. My wife lives by the side assist they offer as one more thing to check when changing lanes.

Most features they share work pretty similar to each other. We have the keyless go, adaptive cruise control (the Q7 is a little better in that it comes to a full stop for you), etc.

Overall they're both nice cars. When it's time to trade up though, I'll be convincing my wife to give up her Q7 and keep the GL as our main SUV.

Does it not do this for the GL? (Come to a full stop, that is.) I was just watching an episode of "Top Gear" on BBC/America and they test drove the new S-class with adaptive cruise, and it did come to a full stop (though Jeremy was guarding the brake pedal just in case because he didn't trust it!)

Another disabled feature?

Currently GL comes with Distronic which only goes down to 15 MPH and then quits. What you saw was Distronic Plus (Thanks, NJ) which can bring the car to a complete stop.

Maybe, just maybe, MB will put D+ on 550.

I bet there will be a noticeable resale value difference between the two.

Especially when the Mercedes is a diesel.
