Trip Update
Sitting in Midland, TX tonight...amid the oil wells and traffic.

Did 588 miles today...74mph average at 18.7mpg. Love the 80mph limit in Texas....that means 85-87 for me and not worry about the troopers.

GL is a pleasure to drive long distances...really not tired or stiff.

Update tomorrow.

On my monthly rides to New England I find myself cruising along at 80 frequently ( too frequently!) The car really does seem to "get it's legs" at 80 and above........smooth and very much in control for an SUV. Enjoy your trip!

Greetings from Shreveport, LA. 560 miles today...70mph average at 19.3 mpg...getting better with the lower average speed. Hit triple digits for a very short stretch...101...had to pass and was following another guy and one behind me. The GL goes up and over a 100 very, very easily...to easily

No pics yet... This is not really a pic trip but will get some in SC and on the way home I hope.

More tomorrow...

sounds like fun... BUT.. 85-87 will get you a ticket in West Texas, there is a zero tolerance along I-10 in some areas.

And your GL is not a F250, so you're sticking out like a sore thumb. be careful

Yeah...those Safety Zones...I put it right on 80 when they are in play. Only saw one tropper all day...:-)

That was my experience as well returning eastbound on I-8 after a trip from San Diego. In Arizona, there aren't a lot of cars or police on I-8, but if you put the hammer down they will catch up with you now and again. Still, it seemed that I was driving a different car, a sedan almost, above 85, something that was both smoother and firmer. Damned Germans, always good with the engineering stuff.

In Gerogia tonight...about 30 miles east of Atlanta. Should reach destination about noon tomorrow.

680 miles today. 71mph average with 18.3 mpg. A/C all the way.

I am beat tonight...lots of traffic and trucks galore. They should ban the passing lane for them...

I know on my long-haul, most uphills in major cities allowed trucks and vehicles like mine only the first one or two lanes (depending on the width of the highway at that point).

Arrived in SC about 10:30 AM. Total mileage just about 2500, averaged 68mph at 18.3 mpg. Not bad for a Beast...

Sister is in excellent spirits!

Will try and shoot some pictures this week...:-)

Sister did fine and is on her way to recovery...doctor very pleased and said it went perfectly. Overnight and then home...
