Has anyone mounted GL 550 with the Brushguard

I am told the parktronic goes nuts because the mercedes guard is seen by the sensors as too close..

Does anyone have one?

John

I ask because I am ordering it that way... Dealer warned me, but I would rather have someone back into the brushguard than the bumper.

I don't have the guard on mine, but as sensitive as the parktronic is, I wouldn't be surprised at all. If the sensors see it, I promise you parktronic will drive you nuts.

The parktronic gave me some trouble when I had our bikes on the back of GL on a recent trip. I use a hitch receiver bike rack. The parktronic system would beep when I slowed down to a stop. This would drive me nuts if it happened 100% of the time.

Your chance of being backed into is pretty low when a tall SUV like the GLis in someone's rear view mirror. You are more likely to be " invisible " and hit in a parking space by another SUV or minivan driver if your other car is a low sports car or swoopy sedan. Better to put brush guards on them !

We have the MB bike rack with the 3rd bike extension and luckily have not experienced any beeps from the rear parktronic. Don't know if MB designed the accessory intentionally that way, but I'm glad it doesn't interfere negatively. That chirping would drive anyone insane.

MKW.. you don't drive where I do..

MKW... I drive in NYC and when people park here they always use the feel method... if they don't feel a bump from backing into you they didn't back up far enough!

I've the parktronic and have towed a trailer---no annoying beeps, I wonder why??
I want the bullbar but the accessory catalog stated one can't install with parktronic option

The Parktronic in the GL should have a manual off button, right next to the emergency flasher button on the panel. Also, when plugging in a trailer into the trailer coupling it should switch off automatically. Here's the page from the online manual (the worldwide edition does not always apply to MBUSA automobiles, though).

It does have an off button..

It does have an off button, but every time you turn the key on it is turned back on and goes crazy.

They just warned me that this would happen and make sure I was fine with it.

I was just asking if anyone had the brush guard mounted so I can hear what their experiences are.

Hopefully this will be on Monday afternoon... black/black GL 550

Brush Guards

Looks like I will be searching for an after market brush guard.. The one from Mercedes requires the bumper to be cut (where the sensors for parktronic)

That's too bad. Sorry you've had to go through so many gyrations to only find out it won't work.

Also, Wolfgang is absolutely right... in the US models of the GL, plugging in a trailer into the hitch coupling will switch Parktronic off automatically in the rear of the vehicle.

Good luck finding a brush guard that will work.

Same thing happened with our hitch-mounted rack. After we figured out what was going on, we learned to ignore it. But I agree, constant beeping would not be good.
