I realize the headliner probably has to come down to access all the bolts.

To me, roof rails scream "big SUV" just as sliding rear side doors shout "minivan". I'm not intending to hoist anything up on the roof, so I want them gone.

Hopefully, the highway "wind whistle" will disappear with them.

Any ideas?? Thanks in advance.
Yes you are right. The headliner has to come down. it is an ugly sight. I saw my GL 320 when they change my roof rails for damage on delivery. Not every dealership service knows how to do this. On my case they have to call I guess the manufacturing people on how to change the roof rails. They told me it was a 6-8 hour job good thing it was done under warranty. There's always the risk of ruining the headliner as well as all the electrical components with it.

UGLY IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT! MY DEALERSHIP DROPPED A HEADLINER TO CHANGE A REAR SUNROFF GLASS THAT WAS PERMANTLY SPOTTED BY A LOT WASH CREW THAT DIDN'T DRY THE GLASS. THERE ARE MANY COMPONENTS UP IN THE ROOF THAT I WOULDN'T WANT TOUCHED. SERVICE ADVISER WITH MB SCHOOLED TECH SAID IT COULDN'T BE DONE IN 6-8 HOURS.
