GL-450 - extended warranty through MB

Just picked up my 08 GL and the wife really wants to get the extended warranty through MB. Does anyone have info on a dealer that I can purchase one through at a discount? I was able to get 25% off back in 04 on my e-class....but that dealer is not responding to my e-mails.

Any help would be GREAT!

Thanks!

When I purchased the truck, the dealer was pretty stubborn about not dropping the price on the warranty. In the past, they would do anything to sell you a contract. Now it is a complete reversal...the business manager couldn't care less if I purchased a plan. I called back the day after I purchased the car and gave into their price...which was about 15% off. Hope this helps

It does help.. At least I know someone got 15% off. My dealer offered $400 off.

I am still hoping there is a dealer out there that will sell the warranty at a GOOD price.

Thanks!

Just an FYI, I also purchased the Wheel/Tire warranty. According to the dealer it must be purchased at the time of delivery. They still gave it to me because I called back the next day. I don't know if they were feeding me a line of BS. But they gave it to me anyway because I called the next day. I got both warranties for about a $150 less than the retail price of the extended warranty.

I was offered about a 15% discount on a MB extended warranty. My dealer's buisness manager also offered a 3rd party warranty that has the same coverage, except for overall mileage. The MB coverage was for 7 yrs/100,000 mi., and the 3rd party was for 7/70,000 although it does require a $100 deductible. There are lesser terms for both. The 3rd party warranty is transferable to a new owner (same as MB), but unlike the MB warranty, it is also refundable (if you choose) on a prorated basis if the vehicle is sold before the warranty's term is up. With a little haggling, the 3rd party premium cost me about $1,300 less than the MB warranty. I figured Mercedes would not be offering this alternative if they weren't dealing with a reputable company, so I took it as it works for me. Obviously, you have to take into account your own driving habits in determining what's best for you. It's all a gamble any way you look at it.

FYI, I was quoted $3400 for the MB 5 yr / 100K warranty. I made an offer on the car including the warranty, which they accepted. Before I picked it up, the finance officer told me that the paper work would reflect the warranty seperately, but the bottom line price would be the same. When I signed the papers, the warranty was shown as $2300. I asked why and they said it was their cost for the warranty.

I was told the extended can bring you up to a total of 7 years, and or 100,000 miles, the list price is $4125.
This can be purchased from any dealer, I would love to get a 15% discount, does any one have a dealer that would like to sell it?

No, it only bumps the MB factory warranty up to 5 years or 100K. You are only gaining 1 year but more importantly for us, 50K miles. There are several different options but that is what fits us best. The last one had 5K and about 3 weeks left, and was fully transferable, which makes a good marketing tool for selling it.

This subject I have a little experience with. Fist keep in mind nether the sales manager or the sales person gets a commission on extended warranties. The profit from warranties belongs in the financial department. This is very important when it comes to negotiating a price for the extended warranty. The easiest way to get an extended warranty is to drop by a dealer other than the dealer you purchased the vehicle from. The best time is the last day of the month, or weekend. Just ask for the finance manager and ask for the best price on an extended warranty. A few hundred over cost will equal a small commission check for ZERO effort! Trust me it works…the farther away from the selling dealer the better. He has one chance to make SOME profit or NO profit!!

Now, that's a nice piece of info. Makes sense to me. I am about to try to buy one for my Silverado. I think I will give your theory a try, at the end of this month. I am a firm believer that you can negotiate the best deal on purchasing a vehicle at the end of the month.

I found a local dealer (not the one where I purchased the GL450) that would sell the extended warranty (3yr/100k) for approx $3600.00 + tax. This is about a 10% discount from MSRP. Hopefully I can find a dealer that is willing to sell the warranty at a better price. I have a couple of more dealers to call.

I'm looking for a 7yr/100k warranty on my ML (same price as the GL)...if I can manage 15-20% off I'll probably get it...otherwise I think I'll take my chances as this car's quality/reliability is wayy ahead of the 98 ML320

That's great info Scotty, thanks!

Quick question. Can't you buy the extended warranty at any time down the road (before the original warranty runs out)? This way you can get the truck, see if you like it (to see how likely you are to keep it for a while) and see if it has problems that will most likely continue past warranty, in which case you would either extend the warranty or trade it in. So I really don't think you need to rush into an extended warranty at the point of purchase (for the vehicle).

My dealer said the agreed upon price of the MB ext. warr. was good for either 12 mos. or 13,000 mi., whichever occurs first. If not purchased by then, I think it went up 10%, 15% or 20%, at certain mileage intervals that I can't remember.

Now I am confused, according to the MBUSA extended warranty page that BlownV8 posted, the price for +12months/up to 100k is only $2500 retail price. Just curious why you were quoted $3400.. Are you sure you did not get the +24 or +36 month extended warranty?

I was quoted $3400 over the phone. After checking my Purchase Agreement, the final price, that they claimed was their cost, was $2151. Sorry, I was going from memory when I said $2300. It looks like they try to make a few extra dollars on the warranties from people who are uninformed. They were really pushing the 3rd party warranty but I insisted on the MB warranty. Just a personal preference.

Was that the full extended warranty for 7 years/100K?

No, it only adds 12 months but more importantly 50,000 miles to the factory warranty, for a total of 5 yr / 100K. I don't need 7 years because she will nearly put on 100K in 5 years. We will sell it around 4 years, 11+ months, with it still having a few miles and a couple weeks of warranty to offer a potential buyer.

The 7 yr/ 100K is considerably more expensive, but if I needed it, I would have paid the difference.

It is an extension of the factory warranty.
