I don't think its wide enough for them. My Armada is wide enough and there's room to walk thru, I think the middle seat is more useful on a smaller truck. but MB could make it an option like every other feature.

I definitely would have gotten them if they were available. My personal thought is that the GL is wide enough to allow adequate access to the rear with some version of captains chairs.

No way. I personally hate captains in the 2nd row and like the bench.

Nope. I already gave up 1 passenger seat going from an 8-passenger Expedition to a 7-passenger GL. Not that I haul a lot of people around, but it's nice knowing that I can haul 7 people around. A 6-seater to me isn't very practical.

One of the features we were attracted to is that when the 2nd and 3rd row seats are down, the whole cargo area is perfectly flat, which meets our needs when traveling. I doubt captains chairs would allow for this. To each his own, I guess. Make it an option, like everything else, and people can choose.

Cool Chicky! They are the best. I'll drop a pic or 2 of our Koda with the GL soon.

Enjoy!

The R Class had captains chairs in the second row but there was a great deal of comment about the lack of a bench seat in the second row. I think they ended up adding the bench as an option. With this experience in mind I don't think MB will even think about a captain chair setup in the GL.

I just wish there was an easier way to access the 3rd row instead of the fold/flip setup. I think the new Lexus LX570 has a sliding 2nd row.

The 570 does have a sliding 2nd row but not specifically for entry. Entry to the 3rd row is still by a folding 2nd row seat ( I am pretty sure on that point.) The 3rd row is electrically raised (again I think) but folds to the side and does not provide a car wide cargo area when folded up.

I guess MB (or Lexus) could make entry easier than a fold seat, but at what expense? When you listen to the video on Lexus it is obvious they are aiming at the GL...every feature is one more of everything.

Here is the third row setup on the 570...pretty ugly setup to me...

This is not really the topic, but the folding 3rd row seats are such a great feature in this vehicle!

I had a Landcruiser and we took the 3rd row seats out the day after I bought it and put them in the attic and there they stayed until the day I sold it.

When I found out the new Lexus 570 had seats that I couldn't take out at all...I was disappointed. The GL's 3rd row set up is awesome!

BINGO !!!! I knew we weren't the only ones who thought GL's 3rd row was awesome not just from ease of setup but also how comfortable they are.

When shopping my favorite moment came when the LX sales guy told me how easy it was to take those "side folding" seats out with just one hand. He had to call a SA over to show him and then ended up giving the SA a "helping hand so they won't scratch the car".

+1 - Golf clubs do not fit unless you fold a seat down. If I had to manually do it - honestly I would have bought something else.

When we looked at Escalade ESVs , the sales guy, tall and very strong appearing , actually tweaked his lower back muscle trying to reach way in and lift the third row seat out to create a flat load floor. !That sealed it for us, in choosing the GL.
