Static in Sound System?

Very strange occurrence today. Had static in the sound system mysteriously start. Was very close to an event where I went under an underpass and lost Sirius signal (which happens often). Checked radio, single CD, and mulitple CD....all sources had static. I turned system off and on, no change. Then about three to four miuntes later, cleared up and has been working fine since.
Anybody experience this?

Yes. I have had the same problem three different times. Each time it lasted until the car was restarted after at least a 15 minute rest.

My 550 is two weeks old and I have lost my AM and FM radio signal. The service adviser said the antenna is in the roof and separate from the SAT system which works fine. Firmly closing the passenger front door will bring back the signal for a few seconds and then it goes to static on FM and loses the AM station altogether. I was told there is a pathway, whatever that is failing. I am worried about having to remove headliner or door panels to locate the problem.

Yes, I thought I was the only one. This static has happened to me as well. I will bring it up at the next MB service. Only happened twice so far.

Happened once, went away after I restarted the car, has never come back. Hey, it's European and it's an electrical system - what do you expect?

You know that Jaguar switches have three positions, right? On, off, and flicker.

hello, new to the forum. i also had static in the sound system(thought it was bad reception, then i played a cd and heard it ). anyway, i "fiddled" with the volume knob ( turning it low to high while applying pressure side to side up and down and all points in between- as to not miss any spots ) sometimes the contacts or any physical parts of the knob will develope a weak contact point(s) from lack of use in that area. ( i hope this makes sense) and by doing the above , you are "cleaning the contacts" thus making a better connection and ellinating static. try it the next time you hear static, it seemed to have worked for me

Static in sound system

I have had this happen, but here's the thing---I can't turn my stereo off when it happens. No response from the pwr button, can't change the station on the steering wheel and it is just a weird static sound. I have to turn the car off and restart it to make it stop.

I will be bringing this up next week when I take my car in to get it fixed and let you know what they do. My guess is a full command replacement, but we'll see what they do.

Oh yeah, and nothing I do make this happen--it just happens randomly. Thank god my die hard BMW friend wasn't in the car when it happened!

I have an update--sorry it took so long, but my car has been in and out of the shop so many times in the past month that I haven't had time to address this problem, but that's another story for another message board.

All the car needed was a "software upgrade". I'm still coming to terms with the idea that my car is a computer first and a car second...lol. Luckily the car was still under the factory warranty--who knows what it would cost for a software upgrade if I had to pay for it.

Hope this helps...

Happened once to me in 6000 miles....and happened after I went under an overpass as well.
