Ordering a Silver 550--which interior?--UPDATED!!!!!!!

I'm leaning toward the Ash interior--I just don't want black and I think the Ash would look better than Macadamia with the Iridium exterior. Anybody have different opinions? Also, those w/ ash interior, I'm looking for photos if possible.

Thanks,

Ryan

Don't dismiss Black interior. It looks great with the silver exerior. I never had a black interior until the GL and I really like it now. The Ash and Mac are great colors also but they do show a lot more dirt and wear than black does.

GL450 (Alabaster White/Black Interior)
My personal feeling is that the black interior would be the way to go on an iridium silver GL. The reason I really like the black interior is due to the accent provided by the lighter color stiching combined with a great contrast with the wood and chrome accents in the interior. I realize you want to look at ash but give the black a look. You will not be disappointed. I am a person who likes contrast and thus favor a black interior with a silver exterior. I was originally going with the iridium silver when I was ordering mine. It is really a nice looking color. You really can't go wrong with any color combination offered. Jen has the ash interior and I am sure she can post some pics.

I vote for the ash interior - I just find light interiors more pleasant to be in. Ash will show dirt more readily than black but silver is probably the easiest to care for exterior color. On balance the combo won't be bad to take care of.

My vote is for the black interior. Certainly not macadmia with a silver exterior. As others have said, the black would offer a much higher level of contrast.

But really, is it possible to make a GL550 ugly?

The black interior looks the best and to me fits the classy nature of the GL. I've seen some year old ash and mac interiors and some looked pretty bad. The lighter colors are going to show wear and stains quickly while th black will remain nice for many many years.

I have Black so I am a bit biased. But, I am with Beancounter on the contrast. I think a Silver would look sharp with black. Jen's blue with Ash and Steve's Black with Mac look absoluetly fabulous too because of the contrast, at least to me.

I think black would look best....

even though I personally have a black interior that is driving me batty! Every bitty bit of lint or hair shows up on the carpet. Every milk spray out of my daughter's mouth is bright white on the door and/or seat. Every bit of cookie crumb shows up.

Sometimes I wish for ash interior....

How old is your daughter? I have a 5 year old and an 18 month old. I love Black because it's much easier to keep clean with young ones. Ash and Mac are very nice but would drive me nuts if I saw a scuff on them. And with young ones, you can't avoid scuffs.

Another vote for black. I have a family member with silver/ash. The ash interior is too light in color for my tastes. It gives a glare off of the windshield when it is sunny outside.

I'd vote for the Ash interior with that exterior color. We have Ash with our silver A6 and I think it's a great color combination (monochromatic) that's easy to keep clean.

With that said, I drive Mac in my GL, because I wanted the contrast like so many point out here. However, I don't think Mac would work well with Silver.

As far as which color shows the least dirt, I'm not sure. We got to see all three interior colors in Vegas and they all show lint, dirt, pebbles, etc. Although, I think scuff marks are much more noticeable in Ash and Mac.

I vote black

I personally am against the ash (gray) interior...I just don't think it looks nearly as luxurious/nince as the black or macadamia on any car...sorry guys, just my opinion

She is 17 mos.

I guess I can't have it all.

Something is going to be dirty and bug me no matter what color I have.

Note to self: take into consideration that I have OCD when buying next car....haha

Black is the way to go. Just got my pewter GL and I love the light headliner and the dark interior which gives a two contrast look rather than 3 with Mac and Ash. Actually black is probably a misnomer as to the color. It really is more of a charcoal and the sliver grey stiching is a stunning contrast giving the interior a custom hand stiched look. Also black contrasts very well with the brushed chrome and bright chrome accents. And finally the kicker, your switches (head lamps, door switches )are all in the same black. They really standout with the other interiors.

CONGRATS, tm. No wonder you haven't posted all day today BTW, I love your description of Black ("really more of a charcoal") and the "silver gray" stitching. MS should pay you to use that in a brochure

One good thing about kids is how they make you get rid of your OCD. Mine used to be so clean and stayed that way for about 90 days. Now it stays clean only between the time it's cleaned on Sunday AM and Monday AM. How do you tell a 18 mo old to not kick the seat?

I think the black would be a nice contrast with the silver.

I have the ash interior (Capri Blue exterior) and it shows every bit of dirt & dog hair.

Here are a couple of pictures

My vote is a black interior. Before purchasing my GL, we didn't think black interior was an option for us since we decided on a black exterior. Well, we now own a black on black GL. The black looks nice inside (adds to the elegance) and have received numerous compliments on the white stitching against the black.

Black with the white stitching was my first choice. I tried hard to like the mac interior but to me, the brown hues just weren't quite right. I first saw ash in a R500 and liked the cool lightness to it, but it still didn't look quite right in the R500. But when they showed me a black exterior GL450 with the ash interior, I was sold despite the high maintenance of the color combo. Here's some of my interior pics.

Everyone thanks for the opinions.....I'm more confused now than before
I still think I'm leaning towards Ash (thanks for the pics Jen and 85mm), but after clicking thru Nevada's pics on his site, I really like the black as well. I do have a fair amount of OCD (sound familiar chicky?), but fortunately all 3 of my kids do as well, so maybe they won't destroy the Ash that bad. I currently have a Silverstone BMW w/ Silverstone interior and it still looks brand new, so there's hope.

I'll keep everyone informed.

That looks very nice! I like it.

BTW, what is that you have under your carseats to protect the leather seat?

Let us know what you pick!

So far my favorite color combo for a car was my 2003 Landcruiser--slate blue outside and gray inside. Looked nice inside and out AND stayed clean looking...the perfect combination. I've been searching for that combo ever since...

And because I never keep a car more than 2-3 years I imagine it may still be in my future somewhere...if only MB would make this combo and give me ventilated seats I would be in heaven.

Way late to this party - but Black is best! It really is not that hard to keep clean... I also like black because it does not reflect into the windshield as most other colors do...

Good Luck!
