Road Rage in a GL450
(Only person in the car) I was entering the freeway when an Acura TL tried to pass me from probably more than a car lengths behind from the right. He probably thought he could pass a big SUV with ease, wrong. The GL picks up rather fast if not as quick as ordinary sedans. The lane merged and he ran out of room and cuts me off, I had to brake pretty hard (no ABS though.
I would have let it go but he kept brake checking me (probably thought I tail-gated him to closely??). I followed him from a distance but he couldn't lose me, the GL picked up to 100mph without really stressing too hard. Made a couple of lane changes. I felt the GL held together pretty well. Not speeds I would like to be at for a long duration though. Either he intended to exit or he figured the GL was equally matched to his TL and knew he couldn't lose me, the morning commute drama ended.
After breaking 3K miles, this was my first hard run (over 4500rpm) in the GL and I was impressed. Now back to taking advantage of the luxury features rather than performance.
The GL450 is a beast in pick-up and handling. I can only imagine the tricks the 550 is pulling and can pull off...
So my point? I can sympathize.

Funny thing is, when I am driving my Jeep, no one seems to want to try anything... when someone tries throw a wrench in the traffic zipper they always back down... I wonder why?
Maybe its just because they look at all of the armor and the scrapes and dents and realize that 37 inch tires versus sheetmetal is a losing proposition...

On a highway trip to the mother-in-law's, I had a Honda S2000 that decided he didn't want to be behind me when traffic got tight. He passed on the right and cut me off. I came awfully close to hitting him. Anyway, we moved through the traffic, and he decided to drop me quickly once the traffic freed up. Although he still had plenty of speed left in his car, he lost his nerve and backed off at around a buck and a quarter. The GL handled that speed very well, including in the bends. The misses was reading a book and didn't notice what was going until I started to slow down. Then again while we were in Europe in the SL, she never noticed when we were cruising along at a buck twenty.

Jack, I just kept driving straight... The front wheel comes down... eventually.

Nice pics Lisa... I have always been an FJ40 fan as well... I assume you guys probably regularly frequent the Rubicon... I do that trail every year.
By the way, Happy Turkey Day from the Bay Area... We took the GL from PHX to SFO yesterday... 23 MPG average, at 80 MPH.
