What's the line on both Germancar and GLFahrer?

Is the payout at the end of MY '09?

I learned a lot in Vegas during our meet.

Can you deliver the soup if you lose?

I know, I know... don't get me started.

Lose???? You are kidding right...:-)

If I lose this bet I will contract with a known Cabbage Soup source to deliver the soup and all charges will be assigned to GLFahrer's account...

Incorrect. Diesel actually costs more per liter than petrol. The savings come from the improved economy- 25mpg as opposed to 17.

Range is the biggest plus of owning a diesel though. 600miles per tank makes long drives very relaxing.

You mentioned a GL price rise earlier in this thread. Is the price to go up next year? The 550 seems great value right now I must say.

If MB uses this forum for market research to help gauge interest in particular models, the GL420 will arrive in the U.S. next Thursday.

It just seems logical with a weak dollar and strong euro that '09 prices will go up. There is always a annual increase of somekind...if nothing else inflation will create some kind of increase. With gas prices up, the cost of living index has got to go up with it.

Well if you are picking up your GL420 CDI on Friday with Distronic, I will be picking up my SLR Diesel Hybrid on Monday. My discount is slightly over $100K because competition is so fierce.

I think this forum is driving us nuts...:-)

I take your point but couldn't it be argued that with the tanking economy and weak dollar that people are not buying top of the range new cars like they once did? In which case driving up the price would just send dealers out to pasture. A $1k increase perhaps, but I don't expect anything drastic. At least I hope not.

I thought scotty and STP are getting the diesel SLRs NJ, you should get the Hybrid Maybach 62. I think it would look great in your pics with great mileage to boot. You should be able to get about 75K or so off since competition is not so fierce in that segment.

For an extra $50, you can get the whole car chromed. Chicky is probably running to the door now

GLs are built in Alabama and all the GL420CDIs are built there, too. They just don't go to MBUSA, which thinks diesels are for economy freaks. No Off Road Pro package for USA GLs, either
Uh, I never said there was anything as a "regular gas Mercedes," rude much? What I said is the logic that ULSD is more expensive than regular diesel which is why they won't sell a 420 here is the same logic that says they won't sell a 550 here because super unleaded is more than regular unleaded.

If there are teeth in the coming mileage standards to be applied to SUV's and light trucks - similar to the changes coming in cars, diesel offerings are likely to increase dramatically in the near and intermediate term, IMO. Barring some unforeseen breakthrough technology, I would not be surprised to see 4-8 cylinder diesels throughout the MB line-up in 5 years. AMG 63's with 10 mpg could be dinosaurs.
