Bluetooth SAP Module For GL-Class

Hi Guys,

Has anyone bought this BLUETOOTH SAP MODULE for the COMAND APS SYSTEM. I am thinking of getting it since I change my cell fone at least once a year. No point in buying cradles every few months.

How well does it work? Does it ever drop calls, or lose the bluetooth connection?

Thanks in advance.

I have the bluetooth cradle and have been very happy. It's smart enough to recognize my wife's cell if she has the car, or my cell if I'm taking the car.

Welcome to the forum, you'll find the members fun, friendly, humorous, and most importantly a wealth of information!

the blue tooth works great, the ant and service is still your phone the blue tooth only connects your phone to the car ,has no effect on dropping calls, MB has a site you can go to to see what phones are approved for use with the blue tooth adapter

I got the module (affectionatley known as "the puck" around here) for Christmas and love it! It works very well with my Motorola Krazr phone.

It works very well, but it can take some time to transfer your contacts(and it does this every time) depending on where you store your contacts it takes longer if they are stored on the sim-card.

The list isn't updated fast enough, I've used mine with 5-6 different phones, and none of them was on the list.
SE W880I
SE K800I
SE K850I
SE W810I
Nokia 6300
Apple iPhone
Trying with the Bang & Olufsen Sirene soon.

For reference I us a Razr2 without problem, my wife uses a Razr V3 without problem. I should have mentioned the address book load. Like MortenMol says it does take time to load. I have a few hundred in my address book and it takes minutes to load. You can use the phone quickly, but if you are dependent upon the address book it can take some patience.

Thanks for the fantastic information guys. I was looking at using it with the Sony Ericsson K850i and the Blackberry Pearl 8120. Great to hear the Sony Ericsson works with it. I think i'll be using it mainly to receive calls, maybe occasionally calling home or friends when i'm on my way, so patience for the address book shouldnt be a problem!

I invested in the Bluetooth cradle right after I got our GL. You can program up to four phones, but, only one can work at a time. It is a great convenience feature. Like others depending upon the size of the address book it may take longer to upload address book. We have razr and Verizon XV6700. Both type of phone can be linked. There are others that are compatible. I have one issue with the Verizon xv6700 that the address book does not even load. It works fine for incoming and outgoing calls.

I just purchased one off of eBay (make sure you get the newest bluetooth puck with the part number ending in 5878) for $355 vs. $420 at the dealership. It plugs into the contact area in the center console and works fine, so you don't really need anyone to install it for ya.

I am using with a Samsung Blackjack and the phone list does not download into the MB screen. It will allow me to use the phone hands free and does not drop any more calls than a normal cell call...

The Bluetooth puck works very nicely, but I am unable to get it to download the contacts on my Treo 700 WX. My son has an iPhone and that seems to work even better.

The puck is indeed worth the money even if you just use it for handsfree. It is convenient and makes driving safe.

I'm curious to find out which phone takes priority when both of you are in the vehicle.

I just got the "puck" but haven't installed it yet.

My wife would claim she always has priority, and I'd never argue with her about that.

Now the GL might be a little more assertive than I am. It takes the first one it locks in with, which is usually the phone with the stongest bluetooth signal, which is usually my Razr2.

If I am not mistaken, if two phones are in the car, the puck will pair with the last one it paired with. In regard to the Blackberry Pearl, I understand the Pearl pairs well and my 8820 pairs well and downloads the phonebook.

You could be right, since I'm the primary driver of the GL.

How's the ducks flying in STL? I used to live in St. Charles County and was a DU committee member over there in the late 80's/early 90's.

If I get in the car and forget my phone, and my wife's in the car with her phone, it'll pair with hers. If I have it pair with my phone, then get out of the car (while it's running) and go out of range (read; close the lift gate manually) it will un-pair with my phone and not pair with another phone until the "Tel" button is pushed. Twice, usually. If the wife's in the car with her phone at that time, it's a toss-up whose phone will pair with it but normally it's mine. It seems that it's harder for it to pair with my LG enV than her Blackberry World Edition, sometimes.

STP - if you want to unpair a phone, go to that phone's BT settings and higlight MBPhoneSystem and you should have an option to disconnect. Click that to disconnect your phone. To connect a phone manually, hit the Tel button on COMAND, go to your phone's BT setting, select MBPhoneSystem and then click Connect.

These are general instructions but I believe concept is same across all BT enabled phones.

Mine has a better range, sometimes a bit anoying, answering the phone outside the car it often connects, but atleast it's very easy to change audio source on the iphone.

And regarding the iphone, it's very nice that you can connect it to the iphone interface and still use the bluetooth feature. Would be so great if the command unit could download adresses from the adress book.

But all in all the bluetooth feature is awesome

Oh but you misunderstand. If I want to stay connected to the BT puck, I can lose signal in 10 feet. If I'm halfway into the grocery store with the car off and the phone rings, it still thinks it's connected to the BT (or if I have the car in "radio on" mode with the key so my daughter's not completely bored while I'm fueling up and the phone rings it's still connected). It only disconnects when I don't want it to.

Now, as to whether it's awesome, I was happy with my old LG when it only did hands-free on it. Now that it does the phone book and most of the sent/received numbers with my new LG I'm flippin' exstatic!
