Broken LCD Screen
I voted for 3. My dealer voted for "it'll cost ya $950 regardless of what I think"
I don't understand that since the screen is not a touch screen that they wouldn't put a durable glare resistant cover over that thing. The dealer says there is a protector built in to the screen...but tossing a key should not break it. It's not like it was a fastball up the middle...
So be careful out there peeps!

You shouldn't be able to do anything short of firing a gun inside that vehicle that should break that screen. It's not like you threw something from across the room. Bottom line, it's a new vehicle that broke (in my opinion, too easily) and they should replace it, if for no other reason to build your loyalty with them. Don't give up.

Good god, that is like a $4 part to make. I need a new one on the ML as it has a deep gash, but I am waiting to find a good cheap MCS on eBay or something.

Seems another trip across town is due...
You are correct the 2007 Command has a button printed with SERV, the 2008 Command has a button printed SYS/.
The 2008 Command should have the small digital clock.
They put a 2007 Command in your truck.
It's just typical with anything that gets done by anyone now, you (the owner) has to check everything, you can't trust anything to be done correctly. It is so frustrating! I feel for you.

You take the good screen off of the (2007) command and switch it over to your original (2008) unit. It is held in with 4 phillps screws and a ribbon connector.

Sound like a parts department screwup since they agreed to replace the unit without any discussion. If not exactly done "unknowingly" then I would agree...I would be fine with it since you will end up with an '08 COMAND.
