GL550 VS Range Rover Supercharged
I live in Pittsburgh and we don't have many Range Rovers around here but there are a ton of Mercedes (including GL's). The thing that I love best about the Range is the exterior styling but I would give the nod to MB for interior styling.
I also get way more respect with my Range than my E (W211) ever did. It seems like everyone from the hicks with the pick up's to the 750 owners dig the car (male and female alike). The prestige of the Range for some reason just seems to be greater in Pittsburgh (probably because they are rare).
I don't drive fast or care about performance on this car but I will attest to its nice cruising abilities.
Either way you go you will not make a bad decision but for me the Range was the better fit.
And you will have some small issues with the Range but no more than my '05 Porsche or '04 Benz did. I do short-term leases to keep the headaches to a minimum. A new Rover every two years, what could be better

Argh. Can't make a decision! I have no interest in taking my SUV off road (Although it will have to rough it in the Utah Winter's). How are these late model RR taking their depreciation hits?
Thanks guys.

The G55 is nice also but it looks just a tad dated IMHO but it is capable. I never take my car off road either. I would say that most Range Rover don't given the $80k entry fee but it is nice to know that you can (and there are dealer sponsored trips that give you plenty of opportunities). One thing that you may like about the Range Rover is that it always gives you a sense of safety and well-being. In any weather condition or traffic condition you always feel like you are in control which is nice. Another thing that I like is that it is durable and rugged meaning that I don't mind handing the keys to valets.
Another thing that I read out here on the GL forum when I was making up my mind is that big puddles can pull the GL off course but the Range is more resistant to this. I have never had a GL in this condition but I have had the Range through some deep puddles and it shocked me how well it tracked through these types of conditions.
Not to make your decision any more difficult but the LX570 Lexus is now out. I hate the outside but the inside is my like my LS and trust me when I tell you that it is a good place to be.
Finally, the depreciation hit on Rovers are fierce. Almost 20% more than a 750. But with that said, the lease rate that I received was virtually the same as BMW so it depends on how aggressive your local Rover dealer is willing to be (but as stated above, they tend to hold their ground a little more).
These decisions are tough but fun. I wish you the best and like I said before, you can't go wrong with any of these vehicles.
