GL550
They are a great value, prevents dragging and scuffing your feet across the sill. Where are the second row IDS'S ?

For all the talk on the "mushy brake pedal" in the mags and here on the forum......I really don't have a problem with it. I find that I can control the braking action on my GL as well as any vehicle I have owned including several Corvettes, etc. Is it a different "feel"? Perhaps, but once you are used to it there is no question that the GL will stop WHEN you want it to and under your control.

I have no idea if it is, or is not mushy, because I've never owned an MB before. All I know is that I really prefer the brake pedal as it is, because it doesn't throw you toward the windshield when you depress it slightly.

+1 On the comments above, everyone has done a fine job describing the pros and cons of this car.
I've had issue with the brakes, and agree that stopping power is excellent for a vehicle this size. The problem really is brake pedal feel and travel which starts a bit slowly before engaging at dosen't give the feedback I have been accustomed to. This takes a little adjusting especially if you frequently drive other cars. I would note also that pedal sensation is different relative to other AWD MB vehicles as well.

V8 Rumble of the GL450/550
Test drove a GL550 today and wow....nice acceleration. And, love the growl of both the GL450 and 550, especially when getting 'er going.... I must say, that's something I miss on my GL320, but then I reminesce about my BMW X5 4.4 getting 11-14 mpg and I'm happy having a diesel instead.

Honestly, I've seen the benefits of illuminated door sills to justify its costs but to each their own
Definitely, the RSE & Lighting packages are a must. I love the acceleration and growl and it seems to have been getting better and better gas mileage as the miles accumulate on the SUV, let's hope that's not a fluke!

While the dealer was installing my running boards they gave me a fairly new 2008 GL450 (9800 miles on the odo) to drive for 2 days. Noticed a stange noise when shifting the vehicle from park into gear and back again, appears to be coming from the transmission. Dealer indicated that was normal. However, I have not ever noticed the same noise with my GL320, at least not yet, but will pay more attention. Any comments?

That's normal.....all 450's do it as far as I know.
