Poser -

So I driving through my hometown of Princeton on my way to PJ's Pancake House for breakfast for my girlfriend and I. I came up on a "GL55 AMG".

Come on guy! I saw this parked on Sunday on the side of the street near the church on 27 (church's name I'm not familiar with).

It was a GL550 since the tailpipes were of one and so were the rims and the fender flares but damn! Be happy with a 550 and why bootleg it!??!?!

I'd rather have a "63" than a "55" anyway--who wants supercharging?

3 valves/cylinder rather than 4?

Not an option on the GL. The 550 is styled more aggressively, but it's not an actual AMG Sport Package...even if it did, it still wouldn't justify the AMG badge...

The 55 no way, the AMG is up for debate. Not in this case for the ML, but for cars that have the AMG Sport package it is IMO.

Whoever the other guy who did it is, obviously is not a member of this forum, is unaware of its members and has no idea what he got himself into...

I concur with NevJack, what matters here is the star (ihr Stern auf alle Strassen) on the hood and the GL on the rear.

Definitely agree with my colleagues above that you don't wanna bring the numbers game...

Regardless of make, everyone is feeling the gasoline price crunch; it's something thats really sad, not something to celebrate...

I definitely agree on that. The gas in GA is about $3.36 for premium now. I see other states it is at $4.00.

Diesel vs premium

While im well familiar with supply and demand, still wondering why diesel fairly consistently costs nearly 20% more than gasoline. Here in Nebraska premium unleaded is selling for about $3.34-3.49 / gallon whereas diesel is $3.89-4.02? Was there another refinery accident diminishing output or is it due to additional steps needed to comply with ULSD regs?

There was someone that did this to his E also. Is was back when it was E500 and he made it an E50. Very few people would even know what this naming designation is and the ones that do would be able to recognize it from a mile away. Just doesn't make much sense...

I am surprised there have been so many posts without you being shelled for this comment, most 55 guys are pretty pro-supercharger, pro 55 motor. I love my 63, but 55ers are reallllly loyal to that motor. And it is very mod-able. Oh yeah, and the torque would work well on a big truck like the GL with 4wd... no wheelspin.

In the current Car and Driver is a column by Csaba about diesel capacity in the US compared to Europe. The US refineries use a process that gets 50% gas to 25% diesel compared to the 50/50 process used in Europe. It might take a while for US production to change over to catch up with diesel demand.

The 55 Kompressor engine would be better suited to the GL's heft. All the low end torque of the 55 engine would get the GL going much quicker than the 63 engine. With that said, I'd rather have a twin turbo 600/65 engine in the GL over the 55 or 63 engine.
