Question Newbie with a ?

I have an '08 GL450 with 904 miles and noticed it is leaking oil. I have 3 large drops (about the size of a half dollar) on the floor in my garage under the driver side of the vehicle. Anyone else experience a leak this early? It goes in on Wednesday to be checked. I am praying it is an easy fix.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Mine is a little over a year old and I have not had any leaks. I have a painted/finished floor in my garage and would notice very quickly. Hopefully it's just a loose oil drain plug or something easy like that. Let us know where it was leaking from and the fix.

I will keep you informed. I too pray it is just something loose. We just moved into a brand new house, so the floor use to be perfect. I just went out there, I now have 6 dots 3 dry from yesterday and 3 fresh from today. I stuck a piece of cardboard under there for now so I can try and preserve the rest of my husbands floor.

You're darn right.

I know I speak for most of us males when I say, we're appreciative of the respect you have given your husband's garage and we'll try and be as considerate of the floors inside your house.

I can only imagine.

Hopefully, it's nothing too serious.

'08 GL 320 CDI (scheduled delivery 3/20/08)
No leaks yet, but oil is between the hatchmark on the dipstick, I guess 1/2 down which the dealer informs is well within normal for a GL320 CDI with 2350 miles.

No need to pray because whether it's an easy or difficult fix, it's covered under warranty. Only be "peeved" if it costs you something.

The time to have it repaired is a cost for some.

The bummer is the closest dealership is 2 hours from my house. I will also have 3 young children in tow. They will be performing the 1000 mile service why it is there so I don't have to turn around and come back down the following day.

Took my GL in today and they said the oil leak was coming from the main seal. I get to pick it up tomorrow. Another fun 2 hour drive. Just glad it is fixed.

Glad to hear it wasn't anything major, even though it's a major pain in the butt driving back-n-forth to the dealer for you.

What kind of loaner vehicle did they give you?

They gave me the R350. While, in my opinion a very ugly car, it is a very comfortable ride

I assume when they said main seal they meant the rear mail seal (i.e. the one between the engine and the transmission). Good thing that you took care of it now as this would be a pretty costly repair out of warranty (especially at dealership rates)...........

100 times better! They had C-Class, M-Class and the R-Class to chose from. The M-Class was gone, and with the kids opted for the third row seating. Bottom line is that is a Mercedes so you really can't lose

I will look at my paperwork when I pick it up. The tech just said on the phone it was a main seal The leak was in the front, under the driver side??

Ok, paperwork says: FRONT CRANKSHAFT RADIAL SEAL AT FRONT, ON BELT SIDE (REPLACED).

The lesser of the two evils (front versus rear seal).
