Waaaa!

I figured. I really miss this option in my GL (had it before in a Lexus and I love it here in hot Northern CA).

Oh well.

Nappa Leather with Light Birchwood also optional on the '09 550.

Neither vented seats or Nappa will be optional on other models.

Wow, that's cool! I really liked the look of the light birch on the PE models and nappa leather always feels great. Vented seats will fill in that empty button area too. Empty button slots always annoy me.

Was it not available before? I am dealing on a 2008 GL550 right now (I'm in Canada) and it does have the heated/ventilated front seats. Also what do you guys think at buying at this point? Or would I be better of ordering a 2009? What are some of the diffirences other than the Command? The GL550 that is currently in my dealers showroom and that I'm dealing on has the Premium Package with Active Bi-Xenons, Keyless Go, Backup Camera, Rear Seat Entertainment and Heated Steering Wheel for options. It is Cubanite Silver Metallic. Should I pull the trigger or do I wait? I was able to work out a good deal with $10,000 off MSRP...

Depends on whether you can wait for the '09 model to arrive next Sept./Oct.

If not, then better take that $10K discount now. I don't think you'll be able to negotiate anymore than $1K off an '09 at this point.

Technically I could wait, but the GL550 sitting in the showroom is very tempting. I sold my 07 GMC Sierra Denali which will be picked up on Monday. Beginning of May I'm heading to Europe for three month, so won't be able to drive it. My concern is the differences in the 09 MY, and if they are worth waiting for. I am getting a very attractive price at this point for the 08 GL550 and it does have ventilated front seats...

Everyone's situation is different, but if you can afford an '09 550, it probably makes sense to wait, because you're not going to be back home until August. Since MB starts production of the '09 model in July, you would only have to wait a few short weeks after your return to Canada.

For '09, the Command unit is going to be very different from the '08 model and a very nice improvement to say the least. You can already get the ventilated seats in Canada it seems, but we didn't have that option in the US, so that isn't any big deal for you.

A couple of other big changes for '09 in my opinion will be the relocation of the RSE unit from under the 2nd row to behind the Command unit. And, it seems that "pre-safe" will also be standard for '09.

Good luck with your decision and have a great time in Europe.

Thanks Stumblefoot. I appreciate your advise. I'm arranging for an extended test drive right now to take it over the weekend maybe. I guess if I'll like it too much I'll just buy it and be done with it. Please keep in mind that the 09 MY always hits Canada later than the US for MB product. Therefore the wait might be longer than what you have to wait for in the US...

How much more would it cost by adding:
3-zone climate control, Stainless steel running boards, Rear airconditioning, DVD navigation, Parktronic, Rearview camera, Power mirrors, Memory package, Front sunroof, SIRIUS, h/k LOGIC7 surround sound, Heat-absorbing blue-tinted glass, Privacy glass, Bi-Xenon package, Wood/leather steering wheel, Hands-free communication, Voice recognition, Tele Aid, Power rear 1/4 windows, 6-disc CD changer ?

Joyride...

About the 09 model....
Wouldn't surprise me if they surprise us () with a hefty price increase in the summer. I expect minimum 5% or even more...This model is very popular so they might wanna cash-in a bit more....
Am I right GL Fahrer or am I right?

So what you are saying is that I should take up my dealer on the current price I've worked out? I'll make my final decision on Monday. There is a little bit in me that still tries to steer me towards the 2008 Porsche Cayenne GTS, but from a logical point of view, it'll be the GL550. From the logical point of view it should be the GL320 acctually, but I love that 550...

The 550 (and I'm gonna catch heck for this) is more attractive than the 320 I drive. Especially in the driver's side foot well, just to the right of the steering column.

Any GL, IMHO, is more attractive than the Porsche - I'm just not fond of its looks. But then again, that's just me!

I agree with Jack and believe that Distronic is dead. I believe Nish was only 1 of 3 people to ever order the option.

Here we go guys, took the GL550 for an extended test drive. Snapped some pictures of it for you to look at the GL550 that I'm talking about. Wanted to get a feel for it before I most likely will pick it up on Monday. What do you think? (Notice the heated & ventilated seats)

Looks fantastic Joyride! I see the switch for the cooling...

The '09's will have some goodies we don't have but mechanically they are the same and believe me it is one enjoyable ride. Welcome to the club and I know Moday will be a happy day in your household. Enjoy.
