Question on automatic headlamp and mirror dip
Just picked up my GL450 last week. It comes with the P2 package (Xenon lights).
Question I have is why is it that when I leave the knob in A (Auto), my headlight comes on during the day?
I just noticed it the last few days, while driving at 9 AM in the morning. It's been sunny and bright, but my headlights are still on. I check the setting in the Instrument Cluster, and mine is set to Manual, not Constant (Day Time Running Light).
Also, can any one tell me whethe the MY08 can be programmed to have the outside mirror dip when you put in reverse?
Greatly appreciate any input before I take it to the dealer.

Unfortunately, I don't have any help with the running lamps, especially since you have them set up correctly in your system.

Ok....this is a little complex but here is what I understand ( I have a 450 as well with the xenon lights ) In the auto position, your headlights will come on all the time and act act as daytime running lights ...... the tail lights, however, do not come on until the auto system says it's dark enough. If you set the program in the instrument to Constant, then the headlights will come on and act as DRL when the control is left in the OFF POSITION. If you program it for Manual, then they will not come on in the OFF positon. Took me a while to figure this out and then confirm it with MB. Hope this helps!

I'm going to have to disagree with you here. Because from what I've noticed, it only happens in the early morning (like I mentioned, around 8-9 AM). Because if I drive it around lunch, the lights are off. Perhaps the sensor is blocked?? Would you happen to know where is the light sensor to turn on/off headlights?

The light sensor works by intesity of the sun not actual light, if you drive the vehicle into a bright shop the lights will come on but as soon as you drive outside into the sun they go off. The drop down feature is something that the dealer can turn on through coding in the instrument cluster under a section "current menu settings" once activated you have to depress the right mirror button to activate feature, there is no longer a setting in the multifunction display (in cluster) that gives you the choice of mirror tilt.

Then I believe I have a problem. Because like I mentioned, I've been driving for 2 days under bright day light, and headlights are on. However, today is very cloudy, and yet, my lights are not on??
Can you also confirm that the programming (mirror dip)will work for an 08, before I told the dealer?

I think you might have a bad sensor or perhaps need a proper version coding with the SDS. Take it to the dealer and seewhat they say. this never happened with my GL550.
