Cost of Windshield

Does anyone know the installed cost of a windshield? Mine tangled with a automatic garage door-----ouch!

When the one on my Tahoe broke I turned it into my insurance company on a "Glass Claim" and it only cost $100.

Right you are MomBenz. Your auto policy should have a clause covering windshield breakage or severe scratches. (It's not like you damaged the windshield on purpose!) Call your agent or insurance company and they will send a repair service to on-site install. You may have a day wait only because the windshield may have to be ordered from a Benz dealer or supplier-probably not your typical stock item.

Specify to your insurance and the vendor you want OEM factory replacement. It is IR Glass... some installers use cheap replacements. I would have it done at your dealer. I did my S550 at the local dealer and they did a great job... the cost for the IR Glass S windshield was about $1300 installed.

+1 on the OEM request, but here's a question I wonder if anyone can answer; if I had glass coverage (and for the moment I do not) and my windsheild broke, and I asked for OEM glass, could I put the IR windsheild in my truck as a 1/1 replacement for the non-IR windsheild? I have to assume the fit is the same, yes? Is there anything else different besides the IR coating?

Could be worth getting coverage and then finding some construction zones to drive through, tailgate some rock haulers.

I know this is off topic, but...

Are you sure you know physics?

We have AAA auto insurance & unfortunately, they do not waive the $500 deductible for windshield replacement or repair. We had the windshield on our 2005 Civic repaired 4 times then had to have it replaced ($180 installed by Safelite).

You can get a quote from Safelite at their web site (http://www.safelite.com). They did 2 of the repairs on the Civic but one rock was just too massive & cracked the windshield. They were very professional and came to my place of work to do the windshield replacement. You can schedule the repair/replacement online and specify when/where you want the work done. We are very pleased with the work they did.

If your insurance will cover it, definitely go through the insurance.

Thanks for the input guys, but I think this bill is on me as I have a $1,000 deductible.

I think you could do that Steve. You may have to pay the difference between the regular glass and the IR. I remember when I got the 550 and priced out replacing the front windows and windshield with IR for the Blue Glass. The only problem I had was the price of doing it...:-)

I will bookmark your solution just in case...:-)

Another issue maybe the water or rain sensors for the wipers which I understand are integrated with the windshield.

Depends where I'm going.
I just had the front windshield replaced on my GL with original MB infrared glass at the dealership for around $750 installed.

We got ours done through AAA and I specifically asked them to get an OEM windshield. I think the total cost in the same range. Our deductible was 250$ which we had to pay. I had been delaying for long time for this and finally got this done now.

Windshield replacement

I am in the windshield replacement business, take my advice, go to the dealer, In my MB I would only use a orig. windshield from the dealer. The fit is perfect, the rain sens. will work correctly,
