Changing Brake Pads HELP!

Does anyone know the size of the bolts that hold the front brake calipers together?

I've got the only set they had at an auto store and 8mm is too small 10mm is too big.

I'm assuming then it is a 9mm allen hex socket then?

Can anyone confirm before I order one online?

Also is the rear the same size bolt?

thanks

The caliper guide bolts on my GL320 use a 7mm hex bolt. Double-check--your 8mm bolt should not have fit. Pep Boys usually sells single bolts.

You should also get a full allen key set. Even though you can't torque it exactly, sometimes there is not enough clearance to get the hex bolt plus wrench into a small space. But IIRC in this instance you will be OK.

I bought a set of allen hex sockets.

The 7mm, and 8mm were too small. And the next size up in the set was 10mm. It was too big too fit.

I don't get it, I read a couple things and thought the 7mm would be it. And iit seems strange that it would be a different bolt on 320 to 450?

It sounds kind of strange, but back when I bought my GL320, I recall that it had a different (smaller diameter) front brake set up than the 450... I am not sure why they did this...

I checked into it, and here is what it looks like:

GL320 CDI: 4-Wheel Anti-Lock Brakes Front Power 351-mm X 32-mm Vented Disc and Rear Power 330-mm X 22-mm Vented Disc Brakes

GL450 and GL550: 4-Wheel Anti-Lock Brakes Front Power 373-mm X 32-mm Vented Disc and Rear Power 330-mm X 22-mm Vented Disc Brakes

So given that the front brakes are different, it stands to reason that they might use different caliper bolts.

They are different sized brakes then.

That's good, cause I thought I may have been losing it. I was just about to go pull the wheels again to see if the 7mm didn't fit again.

NOw I've got to hunt around for a 9mm hex socket. Crossing my fingers that is the one.
