Service B Extra charge for filter

Getting my service B done today at 20m miles on my 08 GL 320 CDI

I was surprised to find they charge an extra $200 for the filter on top of the 450plus for the service. I feel nickle and dimed. my total is $700 plus for routine maitenece.

200 for a filter, that is crazy

What filter? Air filter? I sure hope an air filter doesn't cost $200!~

oil filter. I checked on line and the part is only about $20.

I don't see how adding an oil filter to serve B adds $200 to the visit. The filter is on top on the engine in the front and can be easily changed if you have the tool for the engine cover (i don't)

Are you sure it wasn't the 'micro air filtration filter'. Those can be a little pricey.

If it was just the oil filter you need to call and complain to the Service Manager ASAP. That is outrageous.

It could been an error. Oil filter is 20$ only. CDI require replacing diesel filters every two years. I dont have knowledge of their cost. gas filter are designed to last 15 years. and air filter are changed every five years with cleaning at every 13K miles. Removing air filter is a little complex job at first time. I just cleaned mine last week. It took me while to take it out.

This was more than likely a fuel filter for your diesel. They have to be replaced every 2 years or 20000 miles. I cannot believe it cost 200 big ones.

watch it close. I got charged $10 for "windshield wiper fluid", and it was full when I get there. Also, $200 for nitrogen filled tires at some dealers.. $10 everywhere else.

I recently had an Audi dealer charge $30 for an aftermarket additive ("ZMax") without seeking my consent or even telling me about it. Total horsecrap. And the FTC has already gone after them.

A fuel filter should be considered routine maintenance and isn't that what "Services A & B" are supposed to be?

Service costs

I just had my 07 GL 320 in for "C" service, at 22,000 miles. Total cost was $281.70 . Oil filter change was $ 17.50. No air filter or other filter was replaced.
Original Conti's, 19" still have plenty of wear left. Tires have been rotated every 7,000 miles.
The car has been wonderful, great for long trips, and solid as can be. Mileage for long trips is 24-25 mpg.

I should have said "a fuel filter change is routine maintenance on a diesel, like changing an oil filter, only every other oil change. It is mandatory and detrimental to the performance of the diesel engine."
