Brake Squeeks!!!!!!!!!

My 2007 developed a brake squeek, dealer says all Benzs squeek....
Funny thing all my past Benzs and AMG verhicles never squeeked and my 2008 CLS63 dosen't squeek... After my first service (being told the squeek was normal), I received the usual Customer Service Survey... I rated all experience and work grade A, under the comments I dogged Benz for selling SQUEEKY$70k+ vehicles... Service Manager called immediately to remedy, they replaced rear pads saying that was all... A few days later squeek is back... Is ther any recall/recourse I have ? Any other GL owners have had the same situation? HELP me Kill the SQUEEKS

Lots of dust here, but no squeaks.

Sorry to not be of any help.

I had the squeek in my 07 right after I got it. Dealer replaced all pads and been squeak free since. Take it back for them to fix it right.

squeak

I have a 2007 Gl 320 with a squeak. I took it once, they said it was a rock stuck in the wheel, it still squeaked. I called, the service manager told me to get the wheels washed at a car wash. I did, it still squeaked. This week, while in for the 2nd recall (hose and now Airmatic Compressor Recall) they said it was because of rust and that they would look at it, but I should drive it and use the breaks at highway speed to get the rust off. I picked it up, still squeaks. I am going to call them back next week and ask that the pads be replaced and see if that work.

All Benz squeak--ha!

Ask dealer to perform DTB T-B-42.10/80b, "Front/Rear Brakes Squeal When Braking"

Mine still squeak

I also got the same response from the SA here in Sacramento. SA told this is normal of Benz. Thanks for pdf file. I will take to the dealer for proper remedy. I told them a 70+ K car should have these bugs fixed prior to release. It is not a good excuse just by saying it is normal. I didn't care much at the time because the brake pad thickness was to spec. SA told me that they will charge to replace pads. Is that the case other GL owner had go through. Another thing SA pointed out was the use of tire dresser can cause the squeaks. Since then I have sprayed some degreaser on the brakes discs and I can't tell the squeaks. But, now I have the backup and I will complain to the manager level and get some results.

Regards,

There was a link here to another article off of MBWorld that spoke of proper brake pad "seating" after having pads replaced. I haven't done it - but then again, I haven't had squeaking in a while. I'll say this; my last Merc, a 1986 560SEL, squeaked constantly, new pads or rotors or both, except for about a day or so after they'd spray "no squeak" stuff on the rotors.

Does that spray work on humans too?

Mine squeeked too at low parking speeds until my last service visit. Dealer lubed the brakes and it's been fine for last few weeks.

One thing that I thought could be a cause is use of downhill descent control. I often used it on SF hills. The braking action never sounded very smooth just like our old Land Rover while in descent control. I'm wondering if that function thrashes on the brakes a bit??

Your dealer will NOT charge to perform the DTB as long as your car is under warranty.

My ML500 had squeeky brakes in cold weather. About this time of year the brakes would start squeeking. I have several friends with MLs and other MB's who remarked that Mercedes means squeeky brakes. I haven't had squeeks with the GL last winter, be interesting to see if they surface as we head into this winter.

mine too. i complained to SA, same anwer, and they charged me for inspection too about $60 odd. and again same problem. inspected third time, SA said not reproducible by their service guys. Same problem repeated again, i am sick and tired about these sqeeking. it is very annoying with this 70K+ car. i will take this TSB pdf with me next time i visit.

So, I took my GL 320 back to the dealer with a printout of the SA IKchris posted, and they finally seem to have fixed it. At first they tried to say no break repair was under warranty, but then did the work at no charge. They had to replace the rear break pads that had the "old number". Thank you very much for the information, you really have to be persistent or they will try to convince you that either the squeak is normal or that there really isn't a squeak and you are just imagining it. I hope it lasts.

Replace squeak in the above sentence with any little nagging problem and it would still be true. Really makes me wonder why Dealers think that people love to visit them to waste time complaining about non existing defects. <Insert a very long sigh here>.
