My old E55 and C300 chirp when I hit the lock button on the key fob and for some reason on my GL450 when I hit that button it just makes the lights blink and mirrors go in...am I missing something or is chirp just not available for the MB GL?? Thanks guys! 1800 miles on her and I am loving her a lot! Prolly the best DD I have ever owned!!

Unfortunately the "chirp" is not available for the GL-class. You only get the blinking lights. Also, the first year GL's dinged when you put it in to Park, but the newer one's do not do this either.

Kent, what do you use to know that your door is locked?
I whined for a bit about the chirp, because I wanted to hear it if I had walked away from the car and was kind of half way across a parking lot before realizing I might not have locked the doors, but you're right. There's a pretty loud "kerthunk" (I believe that's the scientific term) when you lock and unlock the doors.

I actually saw that on the television over here. They have t-shirts made with a not too flattering likeness of the president-elect. He had ears like the guy on the cover of Mad Magazine.

The confirmation "ding" was removed due to high level of complaints found in 2006-2007 J.D.Power owner survey.
Too bad...I would have liked to see it stay myself. So now I just turn around and look for the three blinking lights and/or the folding mirror.

With keyless, you are at the door to watch the mirrors fold and lights blink 3 times. Since our 1st vehicle with keyless, I do not think either of us have used the key-fob to open/close anything. KG virtually eliminates the need for chirp.

My wife and I just traded in her Tahoe (due to age) and CLK500 (due to it wasn't practical for a family of 6), I noticed the new GL didn't chip...
To avoid the "it's only in the movies" statement...
I was watching the National Treasure2 the other night and noticed a GL in it. The female co-star goes to unlock it and it does "chip".

So that's how many "convenience" things that have been removed by MB? Door lock chirp, driver seat ease-of-exit, and mirror dip. Am I missing anything?

People finally started to realize, I think, that it is discourteous to everyone else in the world to force them to listen to their car chirping every time they get in and out.
