Almost like you'd be able to do with a regular shifter situation, yeah? As for engine braking ... well, that works on the diesel!

Tranny holds first gear in AM for long time. Clunky shifts, stays in lower gear longer and wonderful dealer says all is fine after two visits. Customer service should call tomorrow. Also have a whining sound RPM related and that is also fine! I'm worried about the tranny after warranty. Our dealer has no skills what so ever, don't know if I'll buy another M-B, next closest is 150 miles away.

That whining sound you are hearing is most likely engine related. I have the same sound in mine and have had it for over a year. There were a few service bulletins related to v-belt pulleys and air conditioning compressors but my dealer won't replace anything because they say everything is working fine and the noise is not excessive (or at least in their minds). Let me know if doing transmission work gets rid of the whining sounds..........
