07 GL450 Purchase Help

Hello - we are thinking of trading our Volvo XC90 T6 for a certified 2007 GL450. The 07 GL450 is loaded, has 12500 miles on it and originally retailed for $71,490. Dealer is asking for 49000 for it and claim they can't go much lower. Does this seem like a decent deal? It seems some what high to me, since I have seen some deals on new 08's going for around 18k off. Problem most dealers around us, only are giving around 10k off 08's and supply is extremely limited. Wanted a diesal, but there are none available in our area.

We drive about 22,000 miles a year, so the loaded car is appealing and so is the certified warranty.

Thanks for any advice.

Where do you live? I was offered $16,000 of MSRP yesterday. The car was 69,000 - LOADED. It as an 2008 15 miles. They would of sold it for $53,000. You might want to consider buying out of state

You should see if your dealer would have one shipped to you. I can send you the link for the one here in California. It is a great deal and has every option available.

ETA: Or you could make the deal with the dealership it's at and build the cost of shipping into your deal. A friend of ours just made a deal on one in Michigan directly with the dealer in Ann Harbor and the dealership shipped the car to them. Just an idea.

Way too high for an '07. Search CPO on MBUSA. Then call other dealers. You can also try Columbus, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis. It shouldn't be more than 40-42k for that GL in mint condition. If you can, wait a few weeks, gas is going up, they won't want to keep it on the lot.

DB - find another dealer. That vehicle should be priced somewhere south of $41K.

Searched within a 200 mile radius and a car with low miles, ie less than 15,000 were all going quite a bit higher than the dealer quoted me. Maybe they are just higher in this area? Wish they would go for 41k - that sounds a lot better.

Today got quote 17k off msrp on a new 08 GL450. So guess I am better of buying the new. The certified one intrigued us, since it has the 100k warranty. Too bad was not significantly cheaper than new.

$41k for a CPO is kinda aggressive. I'd say $45k is about right all things considered. I've been shopping 07 CPOs recently before I bot my new '08, so speaking out of some experience.

DDCHA - last week dealers were buying '07 GL450's with approx. 16K miles for $36.8K according to Mannheim's published auction results for the mid-West region. That average vehicle will retail for just over $40K. A CPO with 12K miles will not sell for $8-9K over dealer's cost in this economy. According to Mannheim, the outlook for GL450's for the month of December is rather gloomy - estimates of $33K for a low mileage 450 expected.

In my opinion, $45K is out of line with the market. A cash buyer of this type of vehicle should be looking at a leftover MY2008 for $50-54K.

I agree with you that Manheim numbers are much lower. Problem is that a lot of dealers' cost is higher because they may have bought the inventory late-summer before the economy went kerplunk. I've actually shopped for an 07 CPO within a 100 mile radius to Northern NJ for 3 months before buying a new '08.

So, funny after asking everyone about a CPO gas GL we ended up buying a 08 GL320cdi. Sure hope we end up loving it. Pick it up tomorrow. FYI - we got 16k off msrp, so it was litterally a couple thousand more than the CPO one.

Now, we just have to decide if we should purchase the extended warranty.

Congrats! Post pics when you get a chance! I would definitely get an extended warranty if you plan on keep the car past the factory one.

Thanks. Appreciate yours and everyone else's help in purchasing a GL. Kind of funny whenever we buy a car we get buyers remorse, but after a weeks it is gone.

congrats. you and I both went the same pattern, although I ended up with a GL450 for $16k off msrp too. These discounts make used cars unappealing. Let's share notes! What color did you get?

That will be gone once you see the mid 20's mpg's on the highway...I didn't know an SUV could get such good gas mileage IMO
