IPhone 3G compatability?

Sorry if this has been covered before. I have a new IPhone 3G that I am unable to pair with my vehicle. The original IPhone I had paired up just fine.
Is there a different cradle adapter that works better with this phone? If so, anyone find any decent online prices to purchase one? Thanks.

What MY GL do you have? I have an 09 and it sync'd via BT perfectly with my Command and I was also able to transfer all my contacts.

I think there are two versions of the cradle. I recently bought the newer model cradle on ebay and it synced perfectly with the iPhone 3G. If you do a search you should be able to tell which one, I believe the part number ended in 78.

My new iphone 3G paired very nicely with my 07 GL450.........contacts load up nicely and everything works great. Now....I dont use a cradle, I have the "bluetooth puck thing" from MB. I just followed the instructions that came with that and all is well

Well what do you know...I finally got my IPhone 3G paired with my vehicle. When I mentioned earlier that it wouldn't work, I failed to mention that it was a rep of wireless4mb.com who tried to guide me through the process with no success. She lead me to believe that I would have to buy an updated cradle adaptor to work with my new phone. Today, I tried it again on my own using the installation instructions I previously used when pairing my original IPhone, and it worked. I left these instructions at home during my recent travels and that's why I called the 800 number for "wireless4mb" for assistance. A lot of good that did me. Anyway, I'm a happy camper. Now I can use my old IPhone as an IPod and leave it hooked up to the IPod kit in the glove box of my vehicle.

Good to hear that. Should have searched the forum for wireless4mb before you called them. That would have saved you some heartburn I have said it before and I will say it again, it's less painful to whack yourself on head then to get help from those folks.

2008 GL 320 CDI with P2 package, black and black, all leather, trailer hitch.
iPhone 3G and Bluetooth module

I drive 2008 GL320 CDI with P2 bought in July 08.

Just got back from Mercedes dealer after buying the bluetooth module and getting it paired with my new iPhone 3G (software version 2.1).

Works perfect. I can see the contacts in command system as well as the small screen in front, scroll thru, select a contact and make a call.

Hope this might help anyone planning to buy the bluetooth module.

iPhone contacts download

Just picked up my new 2009 GL450 P2. My wife and I both have original iPhones. Was able to sync them perfectly for bluetooth telephone use. Two questions:

1) Is there any easy way to sync the address from the contacts for use in the NAV?

2) Is there any online version of the 2009 COMMAND manual?

Thanks!!

While I don't have an iPhone per-se, I've found that when it comes to the address book either it does or it doesn't. For instance, in my GL with the 07 COMAND, my Dare syncs all call lists, including the phonebook. But in the loaner C300 with the 09 NAV system (with all the bells and whistles - this car is a loaner?) it doesn't sync any of the call lists, unless the call itself was made or received while the phone was connected.

Guys,

I have just purchased and installed the bluetooth adapter for my GL. Paired with iPhone 3G without any issues. Address book and everything else seem to be working just fine. One issue that I am having with the set up is that I can't hear people on the phone really well. People tell me that they can hear me just fine and can't believe that I speak on a car system -- that's how clear I come in on their end. However, I cannot get enough volume to hear people clearly on my side. I would crank the volume on COMAND all the way up but it is still inadequate. Has anyone experienced similar issue?

I believe there is a TSB for some iPhone 3G issues. Haven't dug into it myself. Unfortunately, the older versions of MB BT (ones that use adapter) don't allow any other adjustments. The newer versions do allow you to raise/lower reception and transmission volumes.

My bluetooth adapter should be the very latest one with part number B6 787 5878. I am going to look into this a bit further to see if I can dig up an answer.

One-time-only pairing of an iPhone with the Mercedes iPhone cradle is done with the iPhone in the vehicle but NOT in the cradle.

There are actually three if not four versions of the new cradle for the iPhone 3G.

204 820 39 51 for Europe
204 820 40 51 for USA

I have the "Euro" model and it works perfectly here in New Mexico with my USA-version GL and my AT&T iPhone.

There is, BTW, a version of the new cradle that comes WITHOUT the pigtail for ipod adapter connection. Don't know part number(s) and whether there will be two versions for USA/Europe.

The new cradle is fantastic compared to the struggles required to get the phone into the pre-3G iPhone cradle probably still sold by Wireless4MB. This I believe is what you call the "earlier model" and in one sense it is but it really isn't since it never was made for the 3G.

I just ordered mine from http://www.comand.co.uk and will likely order a pigtailless version for use in the E-class since don't intend to have iPod interface installed there.

That is a great find, Kent. Thanks for sharing. Any idea on how this can be tied in the iPod kit to allow listening to mucic?

Yes, your dealer has a cable (204 820 03 04) and the instructions to install it (AZ82.70-P-0013GZ).

It's a fairly massive operation, as the the radio comes out and the console is taken apart.
