Transmission Service

I've got 30,548 miles on my 2007 GL450, (Bot in Oct.2006)..I called the shop foreman at my Mercedes dealer to ask him about transmission service. My previous "97 and 2002 S class cars had permanent fill transmissions that they recommended not touching for service. Since I didn't intend to own either vehicle too long after warranty expiration, I didn't worry about trans sevice. However, I love this vehicle that to my good fortune has not had problems and drives like the older Mercedes of yore....solid.

When the shop foreman told me that Mercedes now recommends trans service from 2007 on to be serviced between 35,000-40,000 miles I was grateful to learn. Apparently the trans has no knock-out plug in the torque converter to get to the majority of the fluid for change and has a laborious situation to flush and fill through access through the radiator.

For those of us that will keep their car a little longer due to the uncertain economic times, if performed at 35,000 miles and after due to a schedule provided by BG Performance, BG will warrant your transmission up to 300,000 miles.

Just thought everyone would benefit.

When you get the service, verify that they use the new, improved fluid. That's Mercedes specification 236.14. http://bevo.daimler.com/bevolistenma...c1e379f4fa731b

Ignore anything and everything related to BG products. There is no American "snake oil" company that has the engineering expertise to do anything for a Mercedes.

Can anyone please advise on the cost of trasmission fluid service at a MB dealer? My GL has 43K and I just learned about this service. How much should I expect to pay?

My dealer quoted $350 for the job. What a rip off! Do you guys feel that this is something one ought to get done? This is a one-time change and you won't change the fluid for the rest of vehicle's life. I wonder why MB started doing it from 06 models?

Vehicle life to Mercedes = until the warranty expires.
Vehicle life to a customer = when you sell it or drive it into the ground.

Yes, get the tranny serviced every 50,000 miles,

For my '09 GL450 I was told to come in at 25,000 miles. I'm at 26,249 right now, and wondered if I should rush to get in soon or if I could hold off for a while. Thanks.

35-40k miles is when the 7g should be flushed initially

i usually recommend every 100k miles after that. the mothership says no further flushes are needed nor required.
