i just looked into the tires they are hard to find but i found them . They are listed on Gripston.com for 219. including tax and shipping. ( they made a mistake and had them listed as a 107 H but i called them and they thanked me and changed there website. I also found that Pepboys can order them for 235 plus tax . But they will give you the 4th tire free! i found that mount and balance should run between 20-25 per tire. This is a great savings over the crappy continetals that I have now with 16k miles and are wearing badly and leaking air. also I have not read many good things about the perellis either. so I am going to take the chance and buy teh hankooks since they give a 65k warrenty

I paid $220 per tire with mounting for mine. I called a local truck tire place and they found them and mounted them for me. I'm not sure what's all involved but the TPMs were handled fine as well.

My experience with the Pirellis for the last month in pretty crappy winter conditions are that they are an excellent tyre for the GL. Ride, handling, noise are all great and better then the Continentals imho. As for a tyre that boosts of a 65K road 'life', well I would be surprised that its handling was anywhere close to the recommended tyres for our vehicle; it must be like a hockey puck to last that long.

Winter Tires

Just thought I'd mention that after sliding around on Contis one year then Mich Diamaris the next - this winter we tried Pirelli snows in 265/55R19 10mm smaller than stock (.4 inches on a 10" tire) but smaller is better in snow anyway. Dramatically better handling this winter! Very pleased with the Pirellis snows as winter tires for the GL450.

Going to try the Hankook AS RH07 in standard size this summer.

Winter Tires

I bought some cool 18" wheels with pressure sensors from Tire Rack and put Blizzacks on them! What an awesome tire that was this winter. I am in the Minneapolis area and we had plenty of snow/ice crap to drive on this year - and they were unreal! Now I am on my way to put my 19" back on. I have the Dunlaps on those - been a nice tire but they seem to be wearing down quickly. Only have about 7,000 miles on them and they look like they might go another 10K. But at least I can pop on the Blizzacks in Nov/Dec this year. Should get 3 winters out of them.

I didn't have any idea you could get 'aftermarket' wheels with pressure sensors on them that could be used on the Mercedes system. Thanks

YES! It was comical, because I surfed and surfed for tire options, then went on to wheel options when I determined maybe I should just get snow tires o n a smaller wheel. I found a cool set on Tire Rack - then started calling the local shops to see what they came up with. 4 out of 4 shops sent me the exact same rim and were going to buy it from Tire Rack! One of the local MB dealers also suggested Tire Rack over buying expensive MB wheels. Anyway - they worked great - the sensors never failed and I am a happy customer! Blizzacks ROCK!

Here is a shot of the winter machine!

Also - here is the link to wheel options for our GL320: http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/resul...8&autoModClar=

The ones I got were on $145- I bought the Blizzacks from Tire Rack too then had a local shop make sure they were balanced...they were and they put them on for me.

Are the 2007 wheels & tires the same as 2010? As in bolt pattern & offset?
I've just ordered a 2010 450, which will come through with 19" wheels.
My 2007 with 18" wheels got new rubber in the form of Michelin Cross Terrains last summer. They performed perfectly in the Mid-Atlantic's big snow storm this year.
I'm thinking there must be some OEM 18" take offs fairly readily available as owners of older GL's upgrade their wheels.

I would adjust your order to include 20" wheels if possible...maybe the appearance package for $1400? I understand there are WAY more tire options with that size wheel. Plus that size looks awesome on the GL! Good Luck

I actually prefer more rubber & less metal. If I could get 18's from the factory as an option, that's what I'd do.
The choices on Tire Rack for 20" rubber is indeed a bit better than for 19's, but still pretty limited.

I'm with you. If I could be sure potholes were under control I'd consider the 'performance' sizes. BUT - since potholes will always be with us (and these are, after all, all wheel drive and designed for ground clearance) I'll take more rubber and less rim.

I'm being told by a number of tire dealers that the Contis are discontinued. I tried searchoing the Conti website as well and do not see them as an option anymore. Conti appears to have nothing in the 275/55/19 size anymore. Of course the stealer still has them, but they are looking for $310 apiece for them.

Is there a new OEM tire for the 19" wheels? Leaning towards the Pirelli Scorpions at this point over paying the stealer a heavy premium for factory rubber.

i have been running the hankook ventus for close to 5k miles now.. it appears to be a quiet, solid tire with good ride and grip in the wet so far

i would strongly recommend them and yes, they are with 111 load rating

Same here - made it through winter with my Hankooks. Ride is good, wear seems good, handled the snow acceptably.

19 inch Tire Update Needed

Can I hear from anyone with long term experience with 19 inch replacement tires for our SUV's. Especially interested in Hankook AS RH07.

For my car,07 cdi with 49,000 mi and 4 years, my original Contis lasted 30,500 mi and were not bad.
My replacement Michelin Diamaris need replacement now, barely lasting 19,000 mi. Careful every 5,000 mi rotation has been done for all tires.

Thanks for your responses...

I had Contis & Mich and was very unhappy with mileage and winter performance. After reading comments here I went with the Hankook - couldn't be happier. Ride is very good, winter performance is dramatically better as you would expect with an all weather tire. I think there is less noise than Mich or Conti. I am pushing 100k total and 40k miles on the Hankooks and there is still a fair amount of tread left. I didn't get over 30k with either the Mich or Contis. About 30% of my mileage with the Hankooks is pulling a track car on a trailer.

I'm still happy with my Hankooks. I made it through the second winter with them, I'm not exactly sure, but I suspect I have 30,000 miles on them and still plenty of tread left.

Hankook is a great choice. Like most other Korean brands, they have been in Canada for a lot longer than the USA. I have only had two cars with Hankooks, the latest 15 years ago, and it was a cheap all-season tire. It had great ice/snow/cold characteristics, I think it was a Korean domestic market model.

about 12k miles now on my hankooks now...

no visible wear, ride is still quiet, balance seems to be still perfect... they did well in the winter too.

best tire for the money in my mind.

GL 450 tires

About to purchase the Hankooks for my 07 GL. Michelin's only lasted 22k. From what I am reading they look like the way to go. I just get nervous with Korean tires. Yoko's on my wifes E320 began scalping after 5 K. Put the Conti's on, nice ride with no noise. The GL was a mess in the snow. Could not stop in 2 in of snow. Has anyone gone thru the winter with the Hankooks? How many miles did you get out of them before they needed to be replaced? Love this truck but know I realize that I may have to buy a seperate set of winter tires for it. Should have got the S550.

Had Contis when new. Bought Pirelli after 19K miles. Now the Hankooks. Very impressed. Can't tell you how they perform in winter, but the ride, handling and noise etc. is excellent. Impressed so far.

I had the Hankook's through two Minnesota winters and they did fine. I am due for a new set soon. I think I've put about 35,000 miles on them. I got about 26,000 on the Continentals. So it seems to me the Hankooks are the best performance/durability/price.

Agreed. Still running them without any compliants. It appears to be a quality tire for the right money.
