GL550 Tire Load Capacity
I was going to put 21" Blizzaks on my GL550 for winter. It has a Service Description or Load Capacity of 104Q or 1,984 pounds which is lower than the continentals of 111W or 2,403 pounds per tire.
Has anyone else done this for winter?

Snow Tires
I put Dunlop Winter Sport M3's 265/60 R18 tires on 18x8 MB Essen Wheels (Discount Tires house brand of wheels, www.tires.com). They recommended the 18" over the 21" due to the higher chance of bending a rim on a winter pot hole. Wheels are very hard to find for the GL550.
I love the Dunlops. Here in MN we get plenty of snow. I had no trouble pulling two snowmobiles through unplowed roads in 6" of snow.

If you DO use the Blizzaks, don't load your car up to the weight (per axle) shown on the car sticker - take abt 1000# per axle off. Only you know how heavily you usually load the car - and whether or not you can live with the restriction.
