Hard drive-based navigation retrofit

I am buying 2010 GL350, screwed up and di not buy Navigaton system...
Do you know if can retrofit now? Do I need to change COMAND APS or just need DVD drive? Can be DVD Drive from CLS 550 installed in GL350? Does anyone know what is involved? Steps?

Just had my 320CDI in to fix an A/C vent that broke during a detail (thank you again, Sam! So quick, so attentive!) and I checked out the ML350 Bluetec with the 2010 nav system (which I think is the same as the 2010 GL's system). I now want one. So much different, so much better! Traffic, HD Radio, Memory Stick, Integrated Bluetooth, looks like higher resolution - MAN!

Anyway, so if someone knows how to do a retrofit from 2007 to 2010 COMAND, I'd be thrilled to know if A) it's possible and B) it's significantly less than the cost of trading in my '07 for a '10. (Probably not.)

I've done it with my 07 GL420.
I bought the cables from http://www.kabeldaviko.de/
1. http://www.kabeldaviko.de/bluetooth-antenne.html
2. http://www.kabeldaviko.de/fakra_doppelfakra.html
3. http://www.kabeldaviko.de/mikrofon_ntg2-5.html

Then you need to refit a few cables in the cable loom behind the nav unit. to get the radio to work and maybe also the mikrofon, I don't remember.
Programming is the hardest part, since you need to put the unit in a car which had the new nav unit to program it, it's not possible to reprogram it in a car with the older nav system.

Thank you for the reference regarding cables but I'm not sure I'd need the microphone and I can't figure out what a "Fakra/Doppelfakra" is. I do know it will need the Sirius/HD-Radio module (is not included and for US markets only) and the wiring is to move the TeleAid wiring and unit. Plus the new sub-woofer and sub-woofer amplifier as they're no longer built in to the amplifier like they were on the old unit. What about the cable loom behind the NAV? (This information comes from Rob, one of the most helpful guys I've ever met.) (PS I can get everything but the subwoofer and subwoofer amp, and the above wiring, right now.)

Last question; the form factor is the same from the 2007-2008 unit as it is for the 2009-2010 unit, both for mounting and faceplate size/shape? (I am assuming the unit is the same size and shape in Europe as the US, just different plug-in modules and NAV disks.)

Thanks,

STP

If you have the Harman Kardon speaker system it's a real PITA, since they've changed the entire system, I don't know if it's possible then.
Teleaid probably won't work either, my entire phone setup is now useless and I use the build in bluetooth and the new mic.

Try and write the guy above, he's really knowledgeable, help me do mine. I did it about a year ago, I did it in January, so quite some time ago

Thanks for all the info! Frankly if I do it I know I'm diving headlong in to some time, money, and possible problems. The biggest thing I can think of that would change, outside of the fact that HK uses an integrated subwoofer amp and in the new system it's in the subwoofer instead, is the potential wiring nightmare. I've got a guy here (who, helpfully to me, speaks English) who's helping out.

Thank you again for your assistance! If I do this, I'll document it as well as possible and put together a package for people to see what's involved.
