Replacement Battery

Has anyone replaced their battery? I am considering a preemptive battery replacement on my 2007 GL450 for a few reasons. I accessed the battery today and noticed that it is fourteen inches long. What alternative choices are out there besides going to the dealer? I would like an Optima, but the longest is ten inches. I wonder if this will fit?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

MBZ has put batteries under seats for a while - it was under the fixed rear bench seat in our recent E Class wagon.
If you are worried about the fire issue on the other thread, I wouldn't find comfort in just using a different battery .
If there is an actionable problem , it could be anything from wiring loom short , static electricity from having a battery under a moving seat, etc, etc, who knows.

Thanks. It is for a few reasons, the fire issue being one of them. I am a big fan of Optima products and have used them before. I got into the removal process last night, but stopped right before unhooking the battery.

Does anyone know how the battery is held in place towards the front of the car? Towards the rear, it is held in place with a bracket that goes over the bottom of the battery. You can get a socket onto two nuts that hold the battery.
