I wished the police would come. We called them twice; it was late at night. Unless someone was in critical condition, they would not come. They told us to call a towing company. That's normally how it is with accidents that don't involve serious injury. By the way, the insurance company decided to "total" my car so I think I might glide away from buying a new GL since there is so much maintenance (I had to change tires after 28,000 miles and brakes too!)

Wow! I just had my scheduled service at 37,000 miles and both the brake pads and tire treads were inspected and still didn't need replacing.

Brake and tire change intervals are very dependent upon driving techniques.
28,000 miles?? That should give you a clue as to how this guy drives.I have seen worse though.

This car is meant for off road driving and can take some bumps and what not in the road. Still, even my 2008 S class which I barely drive (only on the weekends) has 16,000 miles on it and I have to change the brakes too! Brakes rarely depend on driving rather than the mileage and even if it does depend on brakes, I think Mercedes really needs to get more resilient ones as well. I have NEVER heard of a similar car that goes 28,000 miles and needs brakes. Even the BMW X5 goes more than that and my old 2001 Honda Odyssey (I hated the car) went 75,000 miles before brakes and I drove it the same way. haha

I've got over 60,000 miles on my brakes. I should be able to get another 10,000+ out of them. However, 28,000 miles on the tires is really good for this vehicle.

Incorrect, driving habits/style is the main factor in brake wear. As for your Honda, you can't compare a "go cart" to a GL. As for the S, friend of mine has an 06 with 55000 miles and still has original brakes. Re tire life which also has a lot to do with driving style, MB selected a high speed rated tire with an excellent traction rubber compound. These do not produce the mileage life that some people are used to, However on my recently traded ML500 with 35000 miles I still had 30 per cent tread life on the OEM tires.

THIRD PARTY INSURANCE CLAIM

If they take this claim to their insurance company thats up to them. If not they will be responsible for any amount awarded. An expert specializing in this field is usually hired. With regard to the rental car why not just rent what you want/need and pay the difference out of your pocket, thats what I do and the amount is insignificant.
My 2009 E550 was parked in a hotel parking lot overnight. The lot flooded during the night. My carrier picks up coverage for the repairs of about $11,000 less $5000 deductible and a rental car for thirty days. All the electrical components and the carpets are being replaced by the dealer from the factory. There is a delay in receiving parts from the factory. The vehicle will be with the dealer for about two months.

The third party insurance carrier denied the claim as an act of god due to heavy rain on the day the parking lot flooded.

My carrier may or may not subrogate against the third party carrier.

The repairs required the replacement of the wiring harness. I am concern about future electrical problems like the vehicles that were flooded during the Hurricane Katrina. The water level reached the lower level of the door and there was mud on the seat tracks. Is there anything I can do about the future problems if something occurs six months or a year later?

MOVE ASAP! I don't live in Beverly Hills but in a SOCIETY equipped with policemen/women to know an accident is an accident, regardless of injury or a small fender bender. Cops in my area are very responsive, even to ticket you for driving carelessly/wrecklessly.
