Used GL450 pricing/check my thinking
Thinking can I get a 2007 GL450.
<50k miles
DVD in headrest
tow pkg
certified or warranty to 100k
For < 40k?
I know other options can drive the price up but I think this is pretty easily achievable based on autotrader which I'm guessing to be a few grand high and the dealer can deal.
What do you guys think?

Where do you find the chrome roof rails aftermarket? I'm looking for the same thing 'stilesp' is, and it's not that easy! I'm thinking I might have to give up a few things to stay under 40K, but the chrome roof rails are a MUST! They look AMAZING!!!

Chrome rails are a original MB item and only came on the GL premiere edition. I got these off of ebay for $450 for the pair (yeah, I know, killer deal) But getting them installed was another story.
The guy at the dealer spent over 6 hours on it because he had to take down the complete headliner (not easy!) and also all of the curtain air bags (which are riveted in place) just to access the nuts/bolts for the rail. Then he had to put it all back and reset the airbag warning lights.
So expect to pay up the @ss for installation.

2007 450GL and 2003 500SL
Just as a slight reference- I just bought a 2007 450 GL. It's a little different in Hawaii because there were only 2 450 GL's for sale in the entire state. If I were on the manland I am sure I could have gotten a better price. Problem is to ship it to Maui could run 2K+. I bought this from the MB dealer in Honolulu. Price incdes shipping to Maui which is approx $600. It is a certified car with 32K miles, one owner, Full leather, P1 pkg., wood steering wheel, sunroof pkg.,three zone climate pkg. and running boards. MSRP was $66,500. I paid $37,500 with no trade. That being said, I think you can find what you are looking for all over. There are tons of cars with few buyers. Good luck and Happy New Year.

Thanks to both of you for the advice. The hubby thinks we should avoid the chrome roof rails idea due to cost, but I cannot get over how awesome it looks. I found a premiere edition for sale that comes with the chrome rails, but I'm not too crazy about the light birch wood trim. We're going to look into the possibility of swapping the wood trim out aftermarket...any suggestions?

It's probably easier (and cheaper) to just buy a GL that already has the chrome roof rails than to install them aftermarket. Same goes with running boards. Those only cost about $600 from the factory, but installing aftermarket ones will run much more than that.

I am almost sure that the light wood trim means the car does NOT have the leather interior, in case that is important to you. That was important to me.

Plus the possibility of anything from shifting-cargo damage to other shipper damage to (and it happens) sinking. Much as I've longed for a good reason to live in #50 for a while, that's one thing (after having worked cargo between Seattle and the Aleutians as a kid) that always puts the worry in that idea. (That and trying to figure out how to make myself work instead of surfing or snorkeling or riding horses in the mountains or trying some OHVs on the back road to Hana or-or-or-or
