Headrest Issues
I purchased a GL350 recently and it contains Premium 2 Package, however my passenger seat has a manually adjustable headrest. Is the 2010 GL350 supposed to be like this when equipped with P2? I was confused because on my 2009 GL with P1, the passenger seat had an electric controlled headrest.

This is definitely a United States vehicle. I just bought it with 17 miles, brand new, LATEST YEAR MODEL. The front passenger seat has 8 way power adjustable seats while the drivers side has 10 (since it includes power head rests). I guess they must have removed it for model year 2010.

I'll let you know for sure at the end of the month when I take delivery on my GL-350 w/ P2 package but here's what the 2010 brochure says. As you can see - no mention at all of either power headrests or 10-way seats:
"GL‑Class. In every dimension of both roominess and
luxury, the 7‑seat GL‑Class cabin is accommodating on
a grand scale. From the heated 8‑way power front seats
to the 50/50 split third row9 that power-folds flat at the
touch of a button, and from the dual-zone — or optional
3‑zone — climate control to the 6-disc DVD/CD changer,
there’s something for everyone to enjoy. For the driver,
a hands-free Bluetooth® interface,10 4‑way power lumbar
support and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering
wheel deliver comfort and control. It’s all matched by a
refined driving demeanor unexpected in a full-size SUV,
but the measure of a Mercedes-Benz.
First-class seating. Beyond its standard luxuries, seating
options include Active Ventilated front seats, heated 2nd‑row
seats, and a Full Leather Seating Package that adds new ambient
interior lighting. A heated steering wheel is also available.
Flexible configurations. From passengers to packages, the
GL‑Class is loaded with versatility. The 2nd‑row seats easily fold
in a 60/40 split. The 3rd‑row seats offer class-leading legroom,
easy access, and power-fold completely flat in a 50/50 split.
Premium 1 Package. This popular option collection includes
the COMAND system — a vivid 6.5" display unifying hard-drivebased
navigation, SIRIUS® Satellite Radio with SIRIUS Traffic,™
HD Digital Radio, iPod® integration, memory card reader, 4GB
of digital music storage, plus a rear view camera and much more.
Premium 2 Package. This option group (standard on the GL 550)
adds high fidelity and high tech to the items in the Premium 1
Package. A harman/kardon LOGIC7® audio system delivers Dolby®
Digital 5.1 surround sound. And KEYLESS-GO lets you unlock, start
and drive your GL‑Class without taking the key from your pocket."
It looks like they may have moved the power headrests into the full leather package, if that is what is meant by "comfort front head restraints". This is also a quote from the brochure:
Full Leather Seating Package:
• Full leather upholstery
• Premium interior and ambient lighting package
• Comfort front head restraints

ksalno, did you ever get to seeing if the headrests are manual? Also, congrats on the purchase! What options/packages is your BLUETEC equipped with? Thanks for the original response.

The headrests are power if you get the seat memory option and manual otherwise. My GL350 has P02, Full leather, Lighting package, 3-zone auto climate control, ADS, Parktronic, heated and active ventilated front seats, heated wheel, hitch, and heated rear seats. Pretty much everything except the rear seat entertainment, I think.

Yes, my passenger headrest is also manual, checked it this morning. I was going by what it says in the owner's manual. Memory seats get you a power headrest but only on the driver side, apparently.
On another topic. Do you notice that when you are going from reverse into drive or vice versa, there is a longer than normally delay switching gears with the stalk? I'm coming from a Denali that had an old fashion shift lever on the steering column but when I shifted from reverse into drive, I could generally go. With the GL there is a 1-2 second delay it seems.

Probably due to the computer making up its mind that all prerequisites for 'drive' are satisfied. Did your Denali have a mechanical linkage or was it also computer switched?

but as was mentioned, this is not a mechanical linkage. That said, I've never had to wait more than what I'd at best call a "moment" for the gear change to happen. If it's truly taking more than a second, I'd say there's a problem. In my '07 320, it's really almost as fast as mechanical linkage.STP
I used to notice that delay all the time. I was paying particular attention to it this morning after reading your post and all of the shifts were quick into gear. So, maybe it takes time to break in the transmission? Maybe it is slower when hot (it is winter and in the high 20s low 30s here right now. Maybe it is a computer thinking issue or all of the above? I definitely remember some long delays when my GL was newer though. Give it some time, I have 10,000 miles on mine.
I notice a delay but most of the time it is when I barely have the brake pushed...if the pedal is squeezed tight it goes into gear pretty quickly.
