GL450 shortage??
Current GL450 lease is expiring and looking for a new lease. My dealer(in NJ) claims that GL450 is extremely tight in inventory. China is grabbing all productions. He wants MSRP and offers a money factor of 0.00204. It just seems very odd. Anywhere else this is happening? Thanks

Your dealer is correct. They are very hard to come by and if a dealer has one, they want something identical in return to trade for it. You should at least hit your dealer with the National Ad, which is $749/mo, $6500 due at signing, etc, etc....this includes some dealer contribution.

I doubt it...look on eBay for 2010 GL450s. There are quite a few. And my dealer (New Country in Hartford, CT) has about 8 of them.

If you accept that reason for the shortage of GL450, then you probably over paid for the GL450. Typical sales BS. And if the GL450 inventory is tight why would Mercedes offer special lease deal to unload them for the past few years.

Saying there is a shortage is probably a stretch but cars.com is showing about half the number of new GLs that were showing this time last year when I was looking. The 350s seem to be in even shorter supply.

Your post reminds me of that old saying, "How can you tell when a salesman is lying? " He opens his mouth... While I'm sure a company might consider diverting vehicles earmarked for one country to another, it's doubtful. Also doubtful is production is maxed out and China is grabbing more than their fair share. What's more likely is your salesman thinks you are an "easy" repeat customer who doesn't talk to others on internet forums and get better information. Over the years and through quite a few transactions I've found you get some dealers who won't budge. To wit: the GL550 we have right now, which we test drove and made multiple offers for at the dealer 2 miles from our house, was obtained not from them but from a dealer an hour away. Yes, THE EXACT VEHICLE! The local dealer refused 3 "reasonable" (IMO) offers, so I broadened my search and starting speaking with other dealers within an hour or so driving distance. Upon telling the "other" dealer pricing, color and options we wanted, he didn't have anything in stock but was able to do a swap and get one. We didn't tell him of the local truck and only discovered it was the same one we drove locally upon finding the original sticker in the glovebox after we arrived home with it.

If you have an AMEX card, I'd suggest trying their card members car buying program. I got a quote on a new GL350 that was $2K less than what I was able to negotiate by shopping prices between 3 local dealers. I realize you're looking for a 450 but I suspect the AMEX price will be just as good on that. The best part is that it's a fixed price, so no BS and no negotiating.

I try to lease my GL from FL, they told me I can't, because that dealer refused to lease the car to me, just because I was out of state and they had very good deals and it only offered to locals at FL...
