Best non-factory option for rear seat DVD
I'm shopping for a GL and would ideally like to have the DVD set up to entertain the kids in the back on longer drives - but finding that this really limits the selection of 07 & 08 models on the market (particularly since we're looking for a specific color. So, should I find one I like that lacks DVD what have others found to be the best aftermarket system for functionality and reliability?

Thats exactly what I did. I found one with all the stuff I couldn't add on like Xenon lights etc. I added a Vizualogic unit into mine. Looks like the factory ones from '07 (not in the headrest but behind it) - there are posts on here about adding a AASS harness so that you can have sound come right thru the speakers like the factory one. Added bonus of the Vizualogic is that each headrest can play a different DVD (if you have 2 little ones with different likes!) and wireless headsets. I did my own install (very easy if you somewhat understand electrical wiring etc) and it works like a charm.

Just to illustrate the polar opposite of the install quality and workmanship of wlee69's setup
, I used a piece of 550 cord and tied a $20 costco DVD player to the back of the passenger headrest. She can kick the crap out of that player for all day for all I care.

The new thing is going to be dropping an iPad on each seat! These things are awesome! I watched a movie on mine the other day, very nice screen...plus you have 80K apps to play with if a movie isn't enough...plus music...plus internet...plus plus plus. DVD players are old news.
