COMAND Screen HELP!
Hi everyone. Is it just me or is the COMAND screen easily damagable? I tried cleaning it today with some computer screen wipes and after I was finished, the screen was COVERED in scratches. I'm not even kidding. When the screen was on, the scratches were not as visible but as soon as I turned the unit off, all the scratches were visible. Does anybody else have scratches all over their screen? Did you do anything to fix it? Opinions always welcome and so are pictures so I can compare it to mine (Sorry, camera is broken). Thanks!

Where does this guy work? Steve, thanks but I'm kinda asking about the 2009/2010 COMMAND screen since it is different for the later MY's. Thats pretty cool though that you have no scratches.

I've used computer wipes before on my 09 command screen and haven't had any problems. I was real gentle though.
STP, you should try Meguiars Swirlx and then wax with their NXT Tech wax. The wax is polymer based and what scratches and swirls remain after you apply the Swirlx, the wax will mask. They also have NXT Speed Detailer and Ultimate Quick Wax which you can use between waxes. Both use a polymer to mask scratches and don't take much time to apply. I highly recommend their microfiber towels for removing their product. My GL is about 10 months old and has made it through a season of salt covered roads and it looks like the paint was just sprayed on after I use Meguiars stuff. Their website has just about everything you need to know about keeping your paint in top condition.
By the way, the MB dealership's car wash scratched the daylights out of the liftgate on my GL. The other dealership in town only handwashes black cars so I am told.

Looks like someone was playing tic/tac/toe on your screen! I broke mine when I tossed the keys to my kid and he missed them...cost me $550 to get a new unit. They couldn't just replace the scree, it was the whole unit. It also was an older unit then mine as I no longer have some features. MB sort of lost me on that one... seems they had about 9 differently programed units, none like what I had. Anyway - good luck!

It's not scratches. It's the anti-reflective coating on the screen coming off. It's a well known problem (try a search and you'll see a few threads about it).
The solution is to remove the rest of the coating, and then install an aftermarket anti-glare protective sheet. I just did it last week. Nu-Shield makes the sheet that I installed (about $18 for the GL) and it fit perfectly.

ML Command Screen
Is this common with all MB with command screen? I have the same problem (not scratches) but something got rubbed off and now I have a "flat" centre with glossy edges on ML320 '09.
I can't get a straight answer from MB - will MB fix the screen under the warrenty? Thanks

probably not... the line from corporate is typically to not cover things like scratches or marks, particularly on things like the command or the rear seat LCD's... you can always try and i have heard of it being ocasionally approved but your best bet is to have the unit disassembled and remove the membrane from the screen...

Just to give a update… MB Canada is not taking any responsibility for the coating on the command screen or refused to provide any solutions. I am one those target audience that MB wanted to capture and I bough into their change. Now I know why MB is so cheap to buy!! - sub standard manufacturer parts - Mercedes Benz has tarnished their branding and next time, I won’t be buying MB brand agiain...its time to give Audi a try.

... compared to ... ? Bentley? Bugatti? Lamborghini?
Seriously, though, you might not feel the same way in Canada but in the US we end up paying a lot more for the three-pointed star without gaining, necessarily, in quality. The most reliable vehicles we can buy are usually Japanese imports like Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus or Nissan/Infinity. They're pretty capable as well, which makes them a lot more value for money than the MBs. And trust me, a few scratches on your screen are nothing compared to what I've had to endure due to substandard manufacturing!

I too have used computer screen wipes to clean my display. After reading this thread, I will be using a microfiber and water from now on. I have purchased several LCD TVs recently and they all came with a microfiber and instructions to only wet the microfiber with water to clean the screens. I think this is more a LCD anti-glare issue than an issue with MB quality. Maybe they could have used a different screen but then maybe there would have been more glare. Perhaps a warning sticker on the dash beside the screen would be in order.

Success!
Today, the scratches bugged the hell out of me so much that I decided to install the NuShield screen I had and was adamant to apply. I took Windex and removed all the anti-reflective coating and the screen looked great. I added the NuShield and it looked great (Except for a couple of dust particles and a few air bubbles that will come out with some pressure). I'll post before and after pics later.

I do too! I have 2013 GLK and there were fingerprints and I rubbed with a microfiber cloth and I scratched the hell out of it. I can't believe the UV coating rubbed off like that. I've had the car 3 weeks and only 8,000 miles! Dealer informed me that they could replace the radio (which I would have to pay for) or just live with it....
