Hankook Ventus tires for GL450 ('08)

I am ready to retire my second set of Pirelli's at 46,000 miles as they are screming with baldy treads. (First set lasted 22,000 miles, FYI). I am not happy with the Pirelli's on all aspects. Unfotunaltely, with 275-55-19, I don't have a lot of options. All other ones available on Tirerack (Conti, Dunlop, etc) had amlost the same mixed reviews like Pirellis. Then, I found from other vendors Hankook Ventus AS. Has anyone driven with these for entire tread-life? How is the ride?

I have the Ventus AS. There is another thread on 19" tires with comments from a few people. I believe these Hankook's have only been available for about a year now so I don't expect you'll find anyone who has entire tread life experience. I have somewhere around 8,000 miles on mine. They are doing fine so far, quiet, decent on snow, and so far are wearing well.

From my research, I have not heard much bad things, yet. I think I am going to give this one a shot. Gripston has them in stock, at $216 includuing shipping.

We have them on our 08 GL320. Have about 7,000 miles on them so far and have performed very well. Excellent traction and very smooth. No noticeable wear so far.

Just and update to my previous post on these tires. We now have about 30,000 miles on the tires and they have become extremely noisy because they are cupped on the interior and exterior. These were always properly rotated in a timely manner and filled with proper air. They still have 50% tread life left, but if we end up keeping our GL, we definitely will put a new set of tires on.

I purchased Hankook Ventus tires for my 2007 Cadillac Escalde and I was very impressed with the wear and quietness. Great price and awesome tire !!!

NO NO NO!!!! On my CLS500 I had 20 inch rims and I kept buying Hankook Ventus V12. They are WAY too soft on the sidewall. I blew tire after tire, because of pot holes, some not even that significant. I've also damaged rims. Finally someone told me to put on some Continentals. $435 per tire! But you can immediately feel the difference. The side wall was reinforced which meant hitting a pothole wouldn't cause the tire to flex (if that makes any sense). It made for a stiffer ride, but I'll take a stiffer if that what it takes to protect the rims.

If you're not running a larger than normal rim size on your vehicle, then you'll probably be fine. I put them on a Nissan with regular old rims and never had a problem. Quiet, decent quality, lasted fairly long.

I just put my 2nd set of Hankooks on my 07 GL today. I was happy with the first set and you can't beat the price. Toward the end they did get loud and noisy, but I did have a shock issue that caused one to wear abnormally. That tire was dangerously worn down. I have to look at how many miles I got out of them, but I'm guessing it was well over 30,000 miles.

I had a set of Hankook Ventus AS's (255/60/R17) on my ML320 after the OEM Continentals were worn. They were very comparable to the Contis - with the exception being that the Hankooks lasted much longer. Dry and wet traction was excellent. They were also smooth and quiet - I noticed the rubber was a little softer than the Continentals. Winter traction was also very good. A very good alternative for the price.

I just replaced my summer Dunlop Sport Maxx 19" tires with Toyo Versado CUV's that I believe just came out last year. I couldn't knock the price at $200 a tire vs. over $300 for everything else. Having only run 1,000 miles on them, there is a lot to review yet. But first impression is WOW! Very stable (it is V rated), very quiet, very nice ride. I had my local shop pop them on the rims, but I still ended up under a grand for the set. I still plan on using the 18" rims w/Blizzacks in the winter as those are sick fun to drive in the snow. The Dunlops made 2 summers, about 20K miles...if I get that I'm ahead! Oh, and these are way more comfortable to ride on than the Pirelli's were. Got the Toyo's at www.TreadDepot.com They ship fast and are easy to work with.

2008 GL 320 cdi
I just turned over 50,000 on a set of Toyo Versado CUV's 275/55-19. I ran these on a 2008 MB GL 320 cdi. The original tires, Continental CrossContact lasted 23K (1st Set) and 29K (2nd Set) respectively, before I read on this Forum about the Versado's. They are quiet, good ride and handling, and good wet weather tire. I still can probably go another 2 to 3,000 miles since I have 4/32" tread left and will definitely put on another set. I thought about trying the new Michelin Premier LTX, but at $280 / each installed compared to $180.00 / each installed and Road Forced Balance for the Versado, this is a no brainer. The Versado are a 50,000 mile warrantied tire, which is exactly how it preformed. Like my tire guy said, some tires preform better on certain vehicles. I highly recommend the Toyo Versado CUV for your 2008 GL 320 cdi. Good Luck
