About to purchase an '07 GL 450: Advise Please

Morning,

I am looking at purchasing an blk/blk '07 GL 450 with all the basics (nav, heated seats, bluetooth) through Enterprise Car Sales. The car is extremely clean, 1 owner car, no past history and full DMI report. It has 28k miles on it and the dealer is asking $38.9 for it.

1. does this seem like a fair deal.
2. any special issues, recalls i should check out before purchasing? I've read things about the air suspension and noises coming from the front and rear, due to the pulleys i believe.
3. The car is under warranty through Enterprise and MB for another approx year (3/2011).

Any advise would be appreicated and cant wait to discuss more about my experience.

My 2007 GL320 is approaching 100,000 miles. It's still quite nice, though it's showing some dings and so forth. There have been recalls but probably the best thing to do is to take the VIN to a dealership and ask a service advisor what its service history is. They can tell you if there's anything outstanding on the truck normally. If they balk at it, while I wouldn't necessarily be surprised (some MB dealerships do some goofy stuff), you might mention that you are getting a GL and you're probably going to be interested in servicing it through a dealership, as it's still under an extended warranty.

As for the actual price, check KBB.com, AutoTrader.com (in your area prices and outside your area) and - funny enough - eBay, and see what they're actually going for. Gassers don't hold their value quite as well as diesels, and while it may be a slightly high number, with that low mileage it might be in line.

Almost forgot - be sure, be absolutely sure not only that the warranty will transfer to the new owner, but what that warranty will and (more importantly) will not cover. Extended warranties are not the factory warranty and some if not most will take great pains to try and avoid paying a claim.

Best of luck to you - let us know how you make out!

1. not really. your target price for said vehicle should be 35k
2. as mentioned- take vin to dealer and see what it needs
3. fair enough

MB: C320 (2005) and '07 GL 450; Porsche: 911SC (1979), 997S (2006).
I have an '07 450Gl that I bought new from the dealer. It has been a very reliable car, but it has had a few repairs performed under factory recalls:

-Suspension air compressor was replaced. I did not have any problems with the original unit, but the dealer replaced it at the time of a normal service because my VIN was part of the recall.

-The entire dash and winshield of the car had to be removed to seal a beam in the front assembly of the vehicle, to prevent water from accumulating inside the frame members. It made a sloshing sound when turning after a rain. Not a recall, but a TSB from MB. Done under the factory warranty, no problems since.

-A few instances of the rear hatch not closing properly by itself. Intermittent, and easily resolved by adjusting the rubber door stops in the door. Other people have reported more serious cases that required replacement of some components.

-I have heard about the noisy pulleys, but I did not experience that problem.

Other than that, and a few flat tires that I can not blame on the car, it has been a great machine. Good luck with yours.

It would be important to know how well optioned the vehicle is, the nav, heated seats, bluetooth are pretty much a part of the P1 package, what else does it have, (ie P2 package, parktronics, keyless go, rear view monitor, rear entertainment, appearance package, upgraded wheels such as the 21 inch AMGs etc). I would think if the vehicle is well optioned with thethings just mentioned they maybe close to being in the ball park with the low milage, however if its not well optioned, I would have to agree with the other member who mentioned somewhere around 33-35k.

This is good advise - I'm debating between a pre-owned GL and a Suburban for my wife. I'm leaning toward the GL as I prefer the way it drives but she is concerned with having enough space for car-pooling.

I have a couple questions maybe the board can answer:

Will the 2nd row of the GL accommodate 3 booster seats across?

Are leather seats included with P1 or a separate option? (I'd prefer leather but finding most GLs with the MB Tex)

Second row will accomodate 3 booster seats, and third row will fit 2. LATCH is available in all 2nd and 3rd row seats.

Leather is an option and not in the P1 package. The MB-Tex however looks and feels very similar to the leather.

Does anyone know if Bluetooth is standard. Or is it part of the P1 package. Thanks

Wiring for Bluetooth was included in the P1 package since it is included the COMAND system. However, the 'puck' necessary to interface with your phone must be acquired separately. (The wiring may also be there even if the P1 isn't but I'm not sure of this.)

Bluetooth connector is not installed without p1 package. Puck as you said is separate in any case.

Is there still a "puck" on the new ones?
