Steering Wheel Rubbing?

Please Help.

I have an 07 GL 450. Today while making a turn, I hit a small pot hole and immediately after I felt a rubbing sensation on the steering wheel while completing the turn. The rest of the car ride home, maybe 3 minutes, I felt the same rubbing on the wheel while making turns. No warning lights popped up on the dash.

Any thoughts what might cause this??

Wow, lots of possibilities, but depending on the severity of the pot hole you may have damaged something in the front end. It seems strange though that you would characterize it as a small pot hole and that might do damage. Is it possible you threw something up in to the gear? Was the rubbing something actively happening while you were turning the wheel or was it your turning of the wheel that felt like it was rubbing something? Was there any sensation in the brakes? Any added vibration or shaking?

Either way, I'd take it in to the shop and see if someone else feels anything abnormal. If it's pretty bad, have it towed in to the shop - I know, added expense, but you may be saving yourself further damage!

Thanks for the info steve. Im having a friend (MB mechanic) come over tonight to check it out, but I think its gonna be bad. I checked with my insurance and towing is included and the deductible is acceptable, so if it isnt covered the hit wont be too big. Ill keep u informed.

Anyone else have any ideas, Id like to hear them.

Thanks

How many miles on the rig? If lots, then worn bushings etc might allow the parts to shift under the shock of a pot hole hit.

Well, my friend took a look at it this evening. On further inspection the rubbing sound is exagerrated while turning the steering wheel. My friend thinks it may coming from a busted power steering pump, but isnt sure.

Tomm Im gonna try to take it in to MB and have them take a look at it.

As for the previous question about milage, its about 32K so I wouldnt think its due to wear and tear of time, but my knowledge on this is real limited.
