TPSM on new wheels? What should I do?
Hi Everyone,
I'm thinking getting a new set of wheels soon for my GL450 but also like to keep the stock 18" for winter so I will not take out the stock TPSM.
What should I do? get the TPSM or not for the new wheels?
If its recomanded because to get rid of the warning errow then I might have to get it but they are so expansive.
Any place I can get them cheaper? aftermarket TPSM? if not what's the parts number for the TPSM that fit in the GL?
Please any comments will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

TPMS are much cheaper at Tire Rack. You have to call them as they are not listed on the web. Set of 4 should be less than $400.

Aftermarket TPMS
Those valve stems that pop red when the air pressure in the tire sinks below a preset value cost far less than 4 new tire pressure sensors and the labor the dealer will charge you. You will have to marry the new TPMS to the car using the dealer programming tool in order for it to work. Given the MB TPMS inability to tell you which tire is low and by how much, IMHO not worth the cost of installation.

As long as the TPMS is the correct type, you should not have to sync them with the system. Besides, if you do not install the sensors, you will have the flat tire indicator illuminated on your instrument cluster for as long as you are running without the sensors. The dealer may disable the feature. However, they may also take the stance that it is a safety feature and tell you that they can not legally disable.

personally, i would just take the factory sensors out and install them in the new rims. it takes no time for discount tire to do it...and it's alot cheaper than buying new sensors.
