Have a 2008 GL550 with 21" AMG wheels.

I would like to get a set of 20x10" wheels as permanent replacements, as I need something more than the hockey pucks available for the 21" wheels, but less than full-fledged winter tires -- kinda stuck in that in-between sweet spot I guess.

I'm working with Elementwheels.com in choosing a new wheel, but am running into questions as to whether or not certain wheels will work with the GL550 (they're concerned about the wheels & the brakes fitting with one another).

I initially chose the 20x10 Dub Bomber 5 Chrome http://www.elementwheels.com/proddet...p?prod=s165210. The engineers at Dub won't "guarantee" fitment until they "see the how high the caliper protrudes from the hub with the wheel off."

My rookie questions:
1. How does one know if a certain wheel will fit the GL550?
2. Do ALL the Mandrus wheels fit? I'm interested in this one as well....

3. Has anyone used another aftermarket 20x10" wheel that worked on their GL550? As you can see, I'm sticking pretty close to the OEM look.

when i was shopping for rims, i called discount tire and they answered all my questions about what will and will not fit. try calling they?? their system tells rim sizes, what offsets will work and recommended tire size.

 

I bought a set of 2008 ML63 wheels and ordered a set of 275/45R-20 Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D ... I realize that 50 series would be what is recommended.. but the tire isn't available that large... I can live with the 1/2 inch smaller in diameter.... the Dunlops have a load rating that is fine with the GL550

the problem is that all of the offsets for Gl450s or MLs are way off for the body cladded GL550 ... so I have ordered 30mm H&R spacers... here are pics of the wheel comparison.. I don't have the spacers yet.

the OEM ML63 wheels came with the air pressure sensors installed.
The ML63 wheels are 20 x 10 with a ET46
The standard GL550 wheels are 21x10 ET37
Typical GL 450 20 inch wheels have a ET of 56

I have the Mannheim's on my 2008 GL450. They fit perfectly. Mandrus wheels are made specifically for MB so they should fit you fine.

 

Are the wheels on this pic original 21 inch wheels or are they after market 20 inch looks nice

Nice pics! Any chance you have pics of the ML63 wheels with the 30mm spacers? I'm trying to mount my old GL450 wheels to my 550, and also figured out that the offset gap is pretty huge (38mm). I've got a set of H&R spacers ordered, but was curious about how close to the fender they get with the spacer.

Is that's a 30 mm spacer on the ML wheel? Is the offset on that setup ET16?
